Granted, but I no longer need a reliable car. The metrolink is my new form of transport to work.

I want something small, light, with a beastily amount of power to weight.

Thus, a Mk2 Xr2, and I shall aim to break the 200bhp figure, which to be fair, isn't really that hard with ford's trusty CVH

arnt RSTs all boost- no go :?:

they sound absolutly emmense and they look really smart but all the ones i have seen that are bout 200hp seem to make loadsa boost noise but get no where fast!!

Eeeee

Lots of people uneducated on Ford's I see.

As for all boost and no go, thats just none sense.

My friend had an Escort RS Turbo, S2, that was around 250bhp iirc, a cossie eater. My other half has had numerous RST's, and not a one of them have been all boost and no go.

They are a damn site cheaper to repair than a clio anyway!

Pikie, Lee used to have a Mk 2 XR2 on carbs, what an animal that was! LOL
Go for it mate!

I like the ford motorcraft part prices, remember going for some parts for the st200 and they were so cheap. Renault prices are daft, and the engines/components look to have been designed by a fool, fords tend to be a tad more methodical, and easier to work on..

2 live have you seen the mk1 blue escort in Todmorden, LoL that thing flies

In all seriousness, it really does depend on how an RST is modded, as to what amount of power you get, and how it is delivered.

My old cabbie had circa 200 - 220bhp, and that was worryingly quick.

It had, from what I can remember

T3 with cossie exhaust housing
-31 Actuator
Ahmed bayoo chipped ECU
Pace intercooler
Kent cam and vernier
P.E 1900 CVH Bottom end

and a few other bits and bobs.

The power delivery was nice and smooth and the 1900 bottom end helped with the torque.

Now, imagine that in a stripped out MK2 XR2, which would weigh less than a clio 16v, and you have the recepie for some serious fun

or ditch the cvh and go 2.0 turbo zetec.

nyk
31-01-2007, 12:13
ZVH's are the way forward and have been for some time. Lee has had 2 in Fiesta turbos. The CVH is still a good engine tho, and easily moddable.

In comparison, a 200 quid plug an play chip will give you 185-195 bhp at 15psi in an escort turbo.

On a 220bhp escort turbo, with cam, hybrid T3, stainless, chipped - 5.9 0-60 mph,PROVEN @ 18psi.

Why?

I think NMS made a point when the broke the 300bhp mark with Tim Butchers grey Series 2.

Ford's CVH unit is tried and tested and lots can be done with it. The only reason you see these shonky old smoking turbos is becuase people don't look after them properly

I wouldn't mind a set of steel rods and cossie management for extra safety though

cos teh cvh has always been shite.

even the a series lumps of the minis can be made to be faster and more reliable........and thats sayin summat lol.

if u want a good reliable strong ford engine...zetec it is......shame the rest of the cars arent as reliable.

i was brought up on fords.....ok so mainly the essex and colognes......v6s..............and i hate them lol.

all those mods.......and still slower than a chipped 2.0 clio..............

PROVEN 0-60 5.71 (bad run too)........and thats only with circa 170bhp......lol

ok so the scort may originally have weighed a fair bit more than the clio...but all the rust that has undoubtedly set in will have reduced the weight of the scort a lot lol.

Oh dear lord

How can you compare the CVH to a colonge?

Granted, the ZVH is a srtong block, and the crank is meant to be good for 400bhp, but there is a lot more involved when dropping a Zetec into a Mk4 scort.

And, like I have said, it's all about power to weight.

170bhp 800kg clio -v- 220bhp 800kg Fiesta

Simple mathamatics really...................... which is why my clio is up for sale

I think a 220bhp Clio would be more fun either way, turbo's are just too easy and boring, NA tuning all the way!

its such a shame the reliability doesn't emulate the looks of the Clio 16v/williams

depends if you listen to 2 live, he'd have you believe they are more reliable than a Caddy! He sometimes forgets we're not all super powered mechanics that can change a gearbox over in the time it takes to have a shit lol

I had endless problems with mine... over £12k in recipts before Mehdi got bored looking through them... that was just in my ownership period... still, old gal did 50k almost with me driving it and was the best handling FWD and car I have driven full stop... was worth it in retrospect.

lol....wasnt comparing owt mate....u cant compare a cologne, or essex with the shoddily built cvh nopw can you. theres no comparisons wotsoever.1s 4 pots..1s 6..1 has the ability to to house serious power...the others just a 4 cyl piece o shit. ;)

simple maths........clio 16v sold.....festa bought, £?? spent on welding, increasing the weight over std........by a lot.........add a quite poor engine 220 bhp that will destroy itself probably within a year....and there u have it..a not so quick festa thats as reliable as any other ford.......not very.

or.....throw a 2.0 engine an a chip at urs....have a reasonably reliable car, with decent power and excellent handlin
