The damage was done because he went onto the grass. He was lucky that the engine hit the ground first, as roll cages dont work on soft ground as they dig in meaning theres still a good chance of your head hitting earth.

His head did hit earth? Hense his concussion, if his head hadnt hit earth, he wouldnt have had any head injuries? He did say my head hit the floor, and he also said if he had gone faster or something of the sort his head would have been embedded in the ground further thus maybe resulting in his head disconnecting from his neck.

Yep thats what I was saying. If he'd have rolled on tarmac/concrete he would have fared better as the cage would have taken all the impact instead of his head taking a bit of it.

aye...lucky it landed facing the way it did too...at least that way the groud was pushing his head into nothing, other way round it would have crushed his head btween earth and cage.

he looked quite upset by the end of the prog ol hamster.......fair play to him.....n good effort.

like the way clarkson took the piss by sayin all that for no records...but if he wanted the fastest crash record.........would have to do it travellin the other way too lol.

Was good to see him back.

Bet it was very emotional watching that back on live tv for the first time.

Made me laugh how he now likes celery when he didnt before.....

Aye. Just found it a bit boring and drawn-out!

u mean like roadworks in general...long drawn out procedures that take months if not years.......wen they could be done within weeks if done at anything more than a crawling pace........with brew breaks evry 5 mins.

lol.

Thought that was quite funny. Its true though, you go past road works and rarely see people actually working on them! lol. Everywhere is health and safety mad now though for fear of being sued i suppose.

aye...what gets me tho....is.. why shut down 2-3 lanes of mway when the speed limit has been dropped to 40mph.....u dont see the guys on main roads shutting the road for health and safety reasons.
they can be working in an area with nearly as much traffic flow, at the same speed etc.

im surprised no1s thrown the global warming arguement into yet either tbh...more road works.....more traffic jams...more pollution = 35degrees in alaska next year

even tho thats a load o bollox too.

Going back to the crash.
Tyre falling apart! Neglect on someones part?

Mat.

I thought this but then i thought that the tyre company that made the tyre have no way of guaranteeing the speed rating of the tyre if itd never travelled at that speed before so you would think that the owner of the car would have to sign some sort of disclaimer in case anything went wrong as sometimes un-explainably does with tyres just so that they dont get sued for all they have.

I thought it was quite ironic the comments he made whilst getting into the car not knowing what was going to happen, programme was alright i thought, spent too long on the tarmac laying though!

I was thinking more along the lines of the wheels should have been changed after every run.
318mph is a lot for a tyre to cope with.

The tyres will stand loads more than 300mph. Top Fuel Dragsters usually do more than 1 season on 1 set of front tyres and they're doing 300mph much more often that that, and also have much more load put on them.
