on my mates gti6, im gonna try and sort it for him but theres one thing im unsure of witch will prob apply to all engines.

i know how to keep an engine in time when doin the belt change but what do you do when it's out of time? and how do u make sure your not timing it 180 degrees out?

thanks

via the appropriate timing marks that engines have! if not look in a haynes mnual ect and it wll tell you.

with the marks lined up if it's out of time it could still be out 180

and the haynes is useless, doesn't cover that model

hows that then? if the marks are lined up then they should only line up 1 way. if the crankis locked it shuol donly lock one way (assuming you use the correct tools?)

like you cannot get the timine 180 out on the clios if you use the proper timing marks and tools

just make sure the cam and piston are at the same stroke. i.e no 1 piston at tdc.....all valves on no. 1 shut on the head(cam timing marks shub be on tdc
