im considering getting a new box, but i prteferably want mental acceleration in a strong box, the obvious choice seems to be a re-con williams box, but is there anything out there with nice short ratios that maintains some strength??

cheers

no williams box is the best bet i think unless you start building different ratios in etc

The RSi boxes have shorter ratios ;)

but are they strong enough to handle big ish power figures?

i ran my rsi box on my tuned volvo turbo lump (150 ish bhp), took it no probs, i think there better than what people think. just my pennys worth.

Do you think it would be capable of say 200 bhp?

difficult to say but your best bet is a rebuilt williams box

does anyone know the code for the RSI box, if its a JB then it will be made same as valver with circlips to hold gears etc in place

the JC (williams) the gears are heat-pressed etc etc so its much stronger

:D

williams box (JC5) is definately the best of the bunch. After that they are all of about the same stength tbh (JB1 and JB3 boxes found in valvers, 1.2's 1.4's etc)

i disagree.. i think the 172 cup option is a better one- comes complete with bolted in dif and speedo drive.

i'd recommend a megane/clio diesel box/megane jc5 5053 for turbo applications

are these are straight swap with the other JC5 boxes or are the mountings different

fair enough, I didn't realise the megane boxes could be used tbh. Didn't know the 172 cup came with the correct speedo etc, has anyone found a way around that problem with the normal 172/182 boxes?

The Mk1 Rsi box is a JB3

I sold mine to amir ....so see how it does in his car :D

i changed a gearbox in a clio cup 172 last week, it was the original box and it had the same circlip type diff as the williams JC5, also the new gearbox had a circlip type diff,

but yes it did have a mechanical type speedo drive!

a friend of mine had a 16v bbtuning turbo conversion printout of 190hp and on average went through about 3gearbox's a year bearing in mind he did about 10K a year in it. May give you an idea and they were JC5 willy box's. The valver box lasted about a month

as posted above. bought a modified box with lsd. did a 5 month stint at 250 and another month at 300. no problems. hoping between 350 and 400 if i ever get my head back.
