I am running abit more hp now than the standard 16v lump and was wondering what the best way forward would be engine mount wise. It has a lumpy tick over and below 2,000rpm, the gear sticks giving abit of action so I have to do something with the mounts. Renault 19 Front Mount or a Modified Dog Bone (rear mount)? Does anyone have any links to the dog bone mounts? I have tried searching for this post before but didnt seem to have any luck, sorry if it's already been asked. Cheers lads

yes mate hillpower do an uprated done bone but you can remove the bush in a standard one and turn it 90 degrees and then fill the gaps with tiger seal ifs not stiff enough. the hillpower one is just turned though 90 degrees. also i think the front mount makes a large difference. you can get the parts secondhand so its not expensive and just buy a new rubber bush.

Personally in my experience, there is nothing wrong with standard mounts if well maintained.

I run more power than standard an mine is fine.

its not all about power though. lumpy idle or snatchy paddle clutch can sometimes benefit from stronger/extra mountings

I've had the 19 mount and it does make a difference...good for cammed cars with lumpy idle

Try the cheap DIY route first, as maxiboy says, turn the bush through 90 degrees and fill the gaps with tiger seal ;)

lots of ideas there. I would rather buy some parts rather than try and mod the standard part I have. The 172 rear mount fits the Mk1's aswell?

Nothing wrong with having 4 mounts.

hill power mounts are good.

i have just been looking at the hillpower website. It's very primitive, doesnt show pictures of the mount, show a price or say anything about it or was I looking at the wrong page?

ive always had the 4th mount since my old gearbox mount snapped and it ****ed the shaft/diff up! about 2 years now, much better imho, also run a std dogbone but its filled with a sealer i got from work, it sets but has a bit of flex in it

btw i just fitted a 4th(r19) mount to my trackcar too

Yep 172 mk1's dogbone fits, same size and dimensions, but, is all at a 90degree angle and appears to be a harder rubber.

Cool cool. Well, as I'm coming down soon Craig, If I can grab a stronger mount off you that would be cool as these are made of cheese or something! Btw, I'm still waiting for the speedo cable from Renault, back order. I've been waiting 2weeks now

lol at stan!

I thought 172 mounts were supposed to be troublesome also, or is that just the engine mounts?

Slightly off topic but is the R19 dog bone mount the same as the 16v dog bone?

I'm guessing you mean turn the larger bush 90* .... I have a spare mount in my tool box actually although my garage is pants and we don't have a press
