I've noticed the last few weeks that theres a whinning noise coming from the back of my car, and it gets louder the faster I go. Is this a wheel bearing? If so.....
1. Do you have to replace them in pairs?
2. Is it easy enough to press them out yourself or best to get a garage to do it?
3. I'm was gonna get them from GSF but read in another post that they do not have any washers with them to go between the nut and the hub...can anyone confirm this?

Cheers. Matt 8)

Most likely a wheel bearing mate, best to do em in pairs... they will need pressing out but IIRC you can get the disks with bearings from reno for only £40 squid each, otherwise just get two bearings from GSF and if needs be get the nuts from reno.

Ok m8...cheers. Worrying it was low gearbox oil or something. The disks are fairly new, so i'd rather just get the bearings. So do u have to change the hub nuts every time you take them off? Matt

the hubnuts are nylock jobs so should be changed but you can get away with out changing them :D

tis an easy job 30 mins to do mine on each side, i couldnt get the bearing out though and the garage i took it too had problems getting it out with a press!

but if they were new discs it should be ok, usualy go because people dont change the bearings when they do discs and try and reuse them...

recommended... yes... if you have to really depends on the condition of the nyloc, for the few quid id do em

Ok guys...cheers. The haynes manual says to replace the bearing, circlip, spacer, thrustwasher, hub nut and grease cap...which consists in there "bearing kit"....sounds expensive! Is this not a bit extreme? Can I just get away with new GSF bearing and OE Hub nuts....and use old thrustwasher etc? Matt

GSF bearings for 20 quid come with all that stuff except the nut iirc might not have the washer.

Only comes out one way mate. There sould be a lip on one end to stop it going right the wat through. I did mine a couple of weeks ago. If you look at your picture, The bearing comes out towards the camera...

Thanks m8...took it into work today and they pressed it out. They said that it was a good idea I did'nt try to do it myself and it needed a lot of force. Only changing the ones side thats whinning...hope the other one does not go!
