Williams Starter Motor

Hi Lads,

i was stuck in quit a bit of traffic on saturday and the car was getting warm with kicking the fan in a few times.

got back turn the car off then tried starting about 2 hours later and nothing. after wacking the start motor a few times it kicked over and has been fine since

would i be right in saying that there should be a heat shield over the starter motor?
