After the clutch cable went on the mk1 i knew it was time to upgrade to something a little more reliable with a warrenty. Ive always liked the 172's but always tried to convince myself that there shite. But after a test drive i couldnt keep lying to myself

so i went to Renault today and paid for it.

I didnt manage to get pics but it looks identical to this:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/images/front_picture_library_UK/dir_400/car_photo_200388_7.jpg

I pick it up Saturday, maybe the monday after cuz there r a few things to do but im getting:

6 months tax
full valet
brand new MOT
and all wheels refurbed :D

Love it, cant wait. I took it for a test drive, and with me, Rachael and the renault man in the car it pulled like a train :D

Matt

i wanted something MORE reliable than the mk1

this has 12 months MOT and 1 yrs warrenty...which means

it's MORE reliable

;)

Onloy mk2 to have is a cup IMO

the 172 is a work horse. hence: NO CUP 8)

The site is staying and doing really well, so thats going nowhere. Nor is my MK1 baby. Im never gonna sell her i dont think, everytime i go to, something pulls me back.

The 172 is to cart me and the mrs to places we need to go to, so the valver can be a pure pleasure ride for club meets and track days.

If i keep the mk1 on the road and use it as a everyday car it's just gonna keep breaking and costing more and more and eventually run it'sself into the ground.

This way it can stay off the road and be pampered until a sunny day appears 8)

that doesnt mean its more reliable, just means you'll be MORE pissed off when it does go wrong! :P

not bad, always found the 172 FF slow as hell though... stick a 2.0 in the valver now and you'll know the meaning of quick

I test drove a 172 and was overall very dissapointed

looked very nice, black and mint but the drive felt so.... i dunny... girly... the steering was stupidly light; the clutch felt pathetic... plasticy and like it was going to snap at any second and it felt a lot slower than i had expected...

i do like them a lot more than i used to and was looking for the similar reasons as you. ie newer more reliable and heaters that work etc lol...

maybe i just test drove a dodgey one though...

looks nice in red though fella, hope it works out ok for ya

compared to my valver, the 172 is like a rolls.

I didnt buy it for track, strip, RR, or to show off, it's for work purposes, taking the mrs to see her family and for when i go out on appointments.

This way i can dedicate more to the MK1.

And when i test drove the 172 i was really pleased, maybe cuz im not overly picky, but i thought the whole feel of the car felt good and strong, and really pulled well.

good plan, stick a mk1 off the road, and it will break break and break even more. mine cert has. was almost trouble free as an everyday car, but now its being a little bitch. (i still love her tho!). cars love to be driven everyday, espesh older ones.

and why buy a 172 FF for an everyday car

cup would be the clever choice, or sensible choice would be any new diesel car. plenty torque, and true work-horses, and mpg is amazing!

I brought a 172 because I have always liked the look of them and decided now was the right time to get it. I didn’t get a cup for 2 reasons:

1. I didn’t buy the car to go fast round corners or any of that bull shizzle, I brought it to get me to work & appointments
2. As I wanted to buy it from Renault, they didn’t have any cups on the forecourt, they only had 1 172 in, which had to be sent over to Tamworth for me to see it. I saw it/ I brought it.

Never, naples reigns supreme

i loved my 172, and everyone who raced it on drags or went in it on track said it was a quick one. it would easily pull to the limiter in 5th.

Zollo saw it on track at haynes

gawd i miss it...

Very nice 172, i must be the opposite to everyone on here, i dont understand why you would want the cup over the ff. Would rather have more electrical goodies than slightly more speed round a track, just imo.

Dude, seriously

I have driven my mates 328i, and driven it hard. It just doesn't compare with the clio.

Fair enough, once they get in 3rd, they are fast. But it lacks the fun factor

yeah **** 328i's though, if you get a BMW it's got to be an M-Power car! Really really fancy an E39 M5...
