Right,

Pardon me for being naive here.

When you see these expensive mercs and bm's e.g m5 coming up from behind you and the lights give off the really blue piercing light is this known as a HID kit?

The light is kind of really centralised, but gives of a really cool look. It sort of starts small in the centre then shoots off light at all angles..

Basically I want to get this effect on my vavler, is it possible?

I appreciate that you can't do it of a £10 set of xenon hid bulbs, cause i already have some! They look good, but nothing like what I explained above.

Ive seen HID kits on ebay for £200 ish but was wondering if this what I need?

Can anyone recomend anything if this is what i need?

By the way I dont want any angles, so dont go there! n :D

Cheers
Leigh

If you wanted to do this for a cheaper price you can get some HID effect bulbs from powerbulbs
i think its www.powerbulbs.co.uk

Philips Blue Vision H4 get those and upgrade your wires, guide from summy on here search for it.

The will look very good

Cheers, yeah, please email me the pics.

I got some HID gas filled bulbs H4, from autobulbsdirect. They were £12.00.

They look good just want that merc/bmw effect if you know what I mean.

Thats the best way I can describe it if we are both on the same wavelength!

look at my pic at the bottom of the thread, i'll get better ones when I can...

I know what you mean about the posh beemers and mercs having that cool look but one thing you've got the remember is those headlights are designed for those bulbs and vice versa - the clio was never designed with that is mind so you might not get the exact look your after...

A few guys in car parks have already come up to me in car parks and asked what bulbs I've been using - had to explain how hids work!!

Thats bullshit that... just read up on it now... How can being able to see better at night and generally being able to show people you're there and improving road safety be illegal

Pisses me off the law sometimes - so what do I do? go back to candle sticks and end up in a hedge as I couldn't see while Mr bmw glares past...

theres a 2 page spread on it in auto express..

boils down to the bulbs lumen diffusion or something

I would've thought they're illegal as proper HID lights have to have self levelling mechanisms, shields in front of the dead ahead and be contained in a sealed unit. Not checked out what these kits are so they might be like that.

If you saw an HID light without the shield you'd go blind AFAIK, hence why all cars with OEM HIDs have self levellers.

Daz.
09-01-2007, 17:49
Are they really going to stop you though and check your bulbs though? This is like a decat for me but a bit more visible - thousands of cars run without them but never get checked

the article suggests the traffic police andacpo have been informed of the findings.. they have tested the HID and analysed them, its a good read, not bad for £1.80.

Daz.
09-01-2007, 18:46
Oh well, they stay for now until i get told off for them... else they'd be a huge money waste!

im fairly certain they are legal up to a certain brightness of bulb i can remember but its either anything over 10k or 12k thats not allowed. Anything lower is okay
