In the technical data books, it says that the reading when throttle fully shut is between 1600-2000K and fully open was about 5,000K iirc (measuring resistance). I measured the TP on my williams engine and I can't get it to read any lower than 2,400K fully shut and it reads over 6,200K when open fully. To back up the fact that the book is probably wrong, I tested my old 16v engine which came out at 2,300K shut (lowest adjustment) and 6,000K+

Does anyone know the actual reading it should be. The technical data book even said that there was a coolant temp sensor next to the throttle body!??!? Confused!

If you 100% know the 1.8 was spot on, you could just swap the whole throttle body inc the sensor.

Is she still playing up?

Id go with stan's advice...

Only other documents i have either dont give much more info than you have or needs an XR25.

well, its just really jumpy and idles high once the throttle has been footed. I am replacing the speedo cable anyway but I want the TP to be right aswell. The 16v TP was set back as far as possible but it seemed to run with no problems. I have to keep switching the ignition off and back on when driving after giving it a few beans otherwise it idles at 2,500rpm instead of 1100rpm  bearing in mind i have wound the idle screw on the top of the throttle body out to make it idle lol

it sounds like maybe the ISCV is goosed, or maybe lambda.

I wouldnt have fiddled with that screw tho....

I had problem with high revving after giving the car a bootfull, would idle at 2k, turn off and straight back on and reset fault and idled fine. until next booted. turned out to be the road speed sensor which is bound in the speedo cable. Either cut black wire on speedo cable (not loom) and give it a better earth or new speedo cable from Renault for £40.

Its a common problem for people who have had the engine out, cable only requires a little tug to cause all sorts of problems.

i know but it wont idle otherwise. I will replace the idle valve with the unit off my 16v engine as I know that works fine and see what happens after ive set the idle screw back . Bighp, I have a speedo cable on order, was on back order but should be here within 5days so I will see what happens 8)

you dont know the half of it  will be alright. Everything will be ok once I have taken it down to craig for vernier adjustment

yes, was the wrong inlet gasket from euro car parts  It didnt idle at all after and kept stalling and so I've had to adjust the damn throttle screw which I know is bad but it just cuts out otherwise :x

They mean the one on the thermostat housing, with a white plug.
