My handbrake is not that great. When you put it on you sit in the seat and rock the car and it will creak and not lock on properly. I have just done disc and pads all round and i have noticed that the back discs have slight surface rust i.e. not shiney like the front discs as if they are not working properly. Could this be a caliper problem making the handbrake not A1?

Your opinions please.

Thanks

Gav

Cable probably just needs tightening to be honest mate. Had mine done at MOT time a few months back.

Sometimes the handbrake mechinism in the caliper goes, had 2 on 2 different cars go, so it only locks one wheel

eithert jack it up and try spinnign the wheels, or park on a hill on lock one way and then teh other, if ones not working you will move one way and not the other (both cases i've come accross have been the n/s)

They shouldn't be shiney like a mirror but equally they shoudl't be rusty

If you are concerned about either your friendly MOT centre will pop it on the rollers and check teh rear brakes both by pedal and hand brake for you.....mine would do it for free, but most places will charge a small fee
