I am wanting to get my steering rack refurbished. I have found somewhere to do it, but i need to get the rack off.

Is it a very hard job?
Could i do it myself?
Anyone fancy doing it for me and ill pay you?

2 or 4 bolts on rear of subframe, plus unbolting the p s piping. not the most taxing of jobs...
naturally remove front wheels and tap the track rod ends out of the swivel hub.

you'll probably need a bigger jack to get more liftt....( to slide your torso through)

Looking at the rack when I had the engine out, it didn't look like an easy job to get off if the engine was in.

How long would it take you gunner?

long enough to miss the action at FCS, copule of hours.. its fiddly down there.... if it becomes fiddle, remove front bumper, take front subframe off.. and reomve it that way, then reverse and put it all back together... then bleed, good practice to change ps fluid... i bled mine it was like a new rack.

Are you getting your existing rack refurbed, or part-exchanging it for a refurbished item?

Rack is 200 pounds for a refurb. 150 to take it off and on i guess, plus new track rod ends 20 quid each and new mounts at 20 quid and 12 quid.

Be very careful that they are actually going to rebuild your existing rack. I have known in the past a few places say they have racks for Williams in stock, when in fact they are for lesser models and have more turns lock-to-lock.

I am going through Nick Hill at hillpower. He made extensive enquiries to actually find someone who refurbs them properly.

Like you say some places just paint them and say they are refurbed.

This will be a full proper job.
