For some reason, we cant get the gearbox to mate with the engine. Its currently sitting about 1.5 cm away from the engine. We can't get the bolts close enough to screw them in.

any ideas much appreciated as we've been doing it for 19 hours straight and are starting to get pretty hacked off to say the least!

Cheers,
James

longer bolts? tighten it up so it pulls in then put the normal ones back?

is the clutch lined up? if so then it WILL go back on provided the input shaft on the box is going into the splines, move the shaft a little if its not the just wiggle it on with brute force it doesnt just 'drop' on it takes abit of wiggling mate.

I've found it never goes back all the way, ahve you greased up the input shaft on the box?

Usually it will go in enough to get one of the long bolts in at the top,a nd then just tighten the bolts up to pull it in

if its a different box to what you had on beore, make sure the location dowls are not in the same position on the box and the engine, should only be one per side

its the same box!

we've got the top bolts in, but the bottom isnt getting close enough to put the nuts on!

carry on wiggling i guess!

if anyone's in reading and wants to help then feel free!

as rich said, if the splines are lined up it will go on with abit of wiggling, it should go up to the dowls easy

Is the starter still on, if it is it could be hitting on the teeth on the flywheel

well we dropped the subframe and moved the box away again so we could mount it again, got the 2 dowels lined up, the bottom smaller dowels are in the correct place, and the bolt holes at the top are in line too, yet it still wont go on with out great force on the nuts/bolts?!

Is it usually pretty hard to get the nuts/bolts tightened to bring the box towards the engine?

thanks again

Usually you have to tighten them up to pull the box close to the engine, but you are talkign a gap of prolly 10-15mm.........shouldn't have to put any sort of force ont eh nuts, shoudl do up quite easily and pull the box in
