bit on a instinct buy today from nowhere.
always liked them but never had the courage to spend the money till today.

its running 306bhp at 17/18psi
standard they are 276bhp

spec is

subarus type R 2 door limited edition 1997
74,000 miles (some will be km) as import
ajustable centre diff
full exhaust with decat
twin piston dump valve
dvd player

otherwise standard

just had full service and full brake upgrade
work been done at scoobie clinic

no tax, but 6 months mot

drives very nice, sounds amazing

after going in the 172 cup and not being impressed i realise i want something FAST, i hate subaru's normally but the 2 door ones are very rare. type R or p1 is all i's have but i aint paying 12k for a p1 no chance

this cost me £6500 today

whats everyone think?

nah its all fine

guy wanted 7500 last week

all clear on log book and hpi

wheels are bit scuffed drives wonderful

there was dvd player in it worth 2-300 so the price was with him keeping that

not a bad price but its because of the time of year

i summer i'll get 7k+ for it providing its still in condition it is now

Thought you needed something cheap to run?

Id love a 2 door impreza. I cant see pics as im at work but will defo look when i get in.

Great buy tbh.

You still have the pulsar?

matt uk
28-12-2006, 20:23
you only live once **** it

just wanna experience all the good cars before i die lol

my bro is leaving before me now so ive managed to buy more time at home at least till feb anyway

pulsar went other day for £1150 with the pluga and walbro255 fuel pump

i still think pulsar when i had it at 300bhp was slightly quicker than the type r although ive only test driven i havent had chance to really give it some stick yet

matt uk
28-12-2006, 20:27
p-t reg made them over a couple of years i think

theres the type r v-limited which was t-v reg i think??

the ra's were as early as m/n reg i think

dont quote me on any of this tho...

tbh im not 100% sure, theres more versions of scoob's then there is 182s lol

Joel
28-12-2006, 20:30
Not for me. can understand the thrill of power and speed of course, Just that scoobys are so common, Personally id go for an evo or supra

matt uk
28-12-2006, 20:41
though about evo but there 10k for a evo 6

plus not as quick off the mark and cost £££ on bills/maintenance

not after top speed i like the 0-100

hence pulsar etc

you wont be able to afford the petrol mate in all honesty. these things HAVE to run on 98 ron fuel (aka optimax) not even supermarker 'super' unleaded is good enough at 97 ron really

big hp

Tesco 99 is ok. I put that in williams all the time, wont use anything else.

Excellent cars matt, ive had 2 of these!!!

It looks totally standard as it came from factory, you need to get some coilovers on it, better front brakes and a better rear wing!!!!

Ow and a de cat exhaust works very well... Pops and bangs on overrun!!!

Looks like a nice one. They are great cars - I don't think I'll ever sell mine.

Type RAs have been around since 1992 in WRX form, 1994 in STI. Type Rs came out in Jan 1997 at the time of the Version III STIs and carried on until the Version VI in 2000. There are indeed a lot more variants than 182s and its very confusing - the easiest way to tell them apart is from the chassis code prefix - GC8D is a version III car, GC8E is version IV, GC8F is version V and GC8G is version VI.

I think Matt's was a much better buy. IMHO, I'd rather have a near standard STI than a mucked about with UK Turbo with (presumably, since he doesn't mention replacing the block on the E-bay ad) open deck block, etc. Having got a car with an EJ25 and STI heads in it now since the previous lump self-destructed at around 25k miles I know these are not the most robust of power units if you start meddling with them!

Take that dump valve off it and it will be much better.

And, from what I hear, subaru had Cadbury make their pistons for them

4 door scoobies are EVERYWHERE

2 door type r's, p1's and 22b's

they hold alot of respect in the car world for anyone that knows their cars

you cannot compare them to a turbo 2000 totally different 8)

thats whats class about scoobies, their noise is unmistakeable and nothing else sounds like em. Same as cossies, you just know theres one nearby before you drive round the corner and see it.

Matt, I think its a good buy, clean up that engine bay, get rid of the rear tints, give it a good coat of polish and sort them wheels, have a giggle in it for a few months, get sick of 12MPG an sell it on for a good profit.

I ran the old optimax and octane booster every tank full as these are mapped for JAP octane fuel!!!

Can you take a pic of the emblem on the boot, the little one.

Is it a sticker celebrating the world rally wins?

i thought the type r and type ra were made from 1999 on???

No, they had Type R Imprezas in Japland around 2005 ish. They originally came in yellow and blue, as a STi III version. I think they usually came with short ratio gearbox, as the WRX RA model, though I suspect some folk had the normal 'box.

They also should have a carbon STi strut brace, water intercooler injector (manually activated by driver) and (I think) a driver controlled LSD system for changing the rear/front power bias.

Later versions came in white, black and blue.
