Spent early years driving many lousy cars as my Dad had a used car business. Still think it's the best way to learn quick road driving (or die trying).

But cars that I have owned myself:-
Mini Clubman (the bouncy years)
Hyundai something (I forgot if it was excel, elantra, accent or whatever)
Fiat Uno Turbo
BMW 2002Ti (lovely 1970s ex-racer & still brings a smile)
Nissan March (wife's)
Subaru Legacy RS Turbo
Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3 (wife's)
Renault Clio Williams (since '96)

Agree with Purplesun. The best way to lear to drive quickly is to drive slow cars but try to make them go quickly.

What makes the Williams 1 and 2 so much fun is the distinct lack of drivers aids ie LSD, ABS,ESP,CBC...traction control etc...a real drivers car, that demands real skills to be driven quickly.

Yes, and I think NickFr is old enough to back me up on this :) I think, the Clio Williams is the most recently made car that still possesses the seat-of-the-pants rawness that harks back to cars made in the seventies & eighties.

Granted, it is not everyone's cup of tea, but all the newer cars just feel too clinical to me. It is this quality that makes it so hard to replace the Clio (and don't think that I have not been looking).

Civic Type-R
Impreza Turbo (classic with ruded up kit blood! aight! came with a free clipper kit to shave your head bald too, oh and some tatoo transfer kits :) proper wicked  )
Seat Leon Cupra with Jabbadabbadoo remap

The impreza turbo was prolly the coolest, I felt like a real man driving that around, the looks you get are top with the neonz and subs blasting out the UK greatest garage anthems. But, having said that when I finally went to the Leon I was well suprised... As standard it's no where near as fast as the Impreza, but then I got me chip (no, not a chip on shoulder related pun ;)) and now I reckon it would pish on me old preza even with 2 14 year old girls in the boot! Best thing is though it's so much comfier than the scooby, I often find myself falling asleep at the wheel, but the chip goes into self drive mode after that and will actually soar into the air and fly away to avoid a collision. It's the bestest, fastest car in the world and I love it, it also makes me feel like a real man again!

Jokes aside. I had actually thought of going with the family this or next year - as we holiday in Blighty every couple of years anyway. But scheduling is really bad this year, so it might be next year.

Heh, in one of our short driving holidays there, we spent a whole day at Demon Tweeks HQ in Wales. Yes, I have a very understanding wife, so I don't see any problem detouring to FCS if we do get there next year.

Hmm.. maybe you could start the collection for next year :D

Good thread this...

My list goes like this:

1st - Citroen Visa 1.1 RE - given to me by my brother, looked like a shed on wheels...

2nd - Citroen Visa GTI - probably one of the most underated cars ever and the second best car I've owned behind the willy. Winding up BMW drivers was so much fun! Sadly fell apart due to paper mache like build quailty!

3rd - Peugeot 309 GTI - lowered and engine rebuilt by Skip Brown, also very fast and very underated - totally immaculate, too many things went wrong in the end so had to get rid...

4th Peugoet 306 S16 - Wasn't too impressed with this but was very fast

5th Clio Williams - Best car by far, altho that Visa will always have a special place in my heart.....

As you can see I have a liking for French cars

I still think Sierra Cosssie was one of the ugliest cars ever made though. Try saying that in a Cossie forum :D

Aye. Living in the most expensive city in the world - in terms of car ownership will do that to you. Plain old Corollas, Civics etc go for something like 25k-30k pounds here. I paid about 35k pounds for the Clio (was a real bargain, believe me). And pretty soon, I have to pay another sum about 6k pounds to be permitted to keep the Clio for another 10 years.

Enjoyed my time with the Legacy & 2002ti. The Legacy was incredibly fast but clinical. Was booked doing 240kph+ in 110 zone, fully laden :D. Scariest cop stop ever. The 2002 had half-race cams, 4-throat webbers & 13-inch minilites. I drove it till it fell apart, wish I had taken better care of it.

KingStromba

I get dizzy doing the maths myself, but here goes:-

1) Say, I get a used Clio Williams from UK for 5k
2) Shipping and admin cost, say 1.5k
3) The car import tax is abt 150% of landing price = 9.75k
4) Permit to drive the car for 10 years about 6.5k

So, the rough total for buying a used Williams from UK would cost me 22,750 pounds.

Sad but true.

lol.....think its more to do with the fact that no1 could afford to insure the fukkers more than owt else lol

me mate nearly bought a brand new escy coss.....but the ins was a grand more than the cost of the car...£25000 for car...£26000 for ins.....he settled on a delta with a 10k ins bill
