View Full Version : 1.4 to valver .. wiring
Hey peeps, hope you had a merry Christmas!
Right then, Ronsvalver is coming to help me swap the engine over on Wednesday! Just a few questions though:
1) What's involved in the wiring side of things?
2) Can I use the 1.4 fuel pump?
That's basically it, is there anything else I should know about this conversion?

alright mate. personally i havent done this conversion before but im guessing you will need a 16v loom, ecu and a jb/jc3 gearbox. Engine mounts obviously. I'm sure the 1.4 fuel pump will be ok as its not a forced induction setup (i.e; turbo). You WILL need a 16v bonnet as the standard bonnet wont close unless you slam it which causes a big dent in the bonnet and scratch's the inlet manifold lol
i think you may well need the 16v fuel pump mate
Also 16v front springs unless its lowered as the 1.4's wont' take the extra weight
Pump should be fine ....if it's a 1.2bar?
92-93 valvers use a 1.2bar fuel pump
Later valvers have a 3bar

why the hell did they change it for?
hi folks, I have the complete donor valver sitting on my drive ready to be butchered, luckily.
It's a 91 Valver, mine is a 94! So the fuel pump is the all-in-one pump/sender unit.
How does the valver loom connect?
Engine and ECU loom is seperate to car loom, all plugs in under a black box in the n/s wing, just infront of the suspension turret
Shoudl just be plug and play, AFAIKall the clio car looms were the same, my 1.2 certainly had valver temp sensor plugs etc on it
yup cheers mate, found out today when we were butchering the loom :D

wait, hang on where is the engine? ha ha.
Few questions:
How hard is the head gasket to do, is it worth doing when the engine is out?
Can the valver gauges be but in the 1.4?
Is the 1.4 speedo cable compatible with the valver engine?
cheers.
Car looms vary...if it doesnt start, it will be the fuel pump feed from the ecu, or the ign live to the ecu not being connected. either is reaonably easy to resolve.
Winston, you sure about that fuel pump quote, earlier ones being 1.2bar? EFI requires circa 3bar to operate.
God damn lack of edit button!
4) Do I need the power steering rack and pump and reservoir off the valver too? Bearing in mind mine already has power steering but is mounted a bit differently!
Pump will be on the engne, but you'll need the res and piping

yes i think u will need the power steering rack. depending if you want powersteering. the colomns i think are the same. correct me if im wrong tho someone.
im currently doin this conversion for a m8. taking ages due to not having enough light after work tho. its an easy conversion. best thing to do is get a donor car drop the subframe and swap all of it!!!
next question.. this is where the loom connects isn't it? Look opn the valver though it has more connections on the white plug.. what are they for?
