I have got the hybrid running now but it idles at 3,000rpm and doesnt drop. Any ideas and will disconnecting the idle control valve make it idle any lower? I changed the collant temp sensor but it didnt make any difference.

Damn car

block the airbox side of the iscv tube up. if the car fails to stall then it will be the inlet gasket

doesnt seem to be any that fit the 3-3500rpm idle speed mate :(

tell me about it mate...

spent over 3grand on it now. A gave it abit of throttle on the way back and it rips the tarmac appart in 2nd and 3rd amazing to drive but it wont idle, 1 of the speedo cable clips is broken so the speedo cable comes loose, its leaking abit of gear oil and the exhaust rattles  very depressing after about 5days of work solid

i spent months and thousands rebuilding engine and widetracking it, engine breaks after a few hundred miles, rebuild it again, at great expense, now cus i re used the crank shaft oil seals these are leaking, something front suspension wise is bent, brakes are shit, rear brakes are non existant........list goes on

Feeling a little happier now though cus i just used for for the last 2-3 months and ignored all the problems, gonna ahve another crack over xmas at getting it sorted

good luck with it all mate. Great cars when they are working properly but when they go wrong they are a total slagg!

and you , i had a 2k idle when i put engine in and started it back up again first time, but turned it off and started again and it was fine, so not alot of help i'm afraid, tried the old un plugging it and plugging it back in again trick (ie reset ECU)?

Idle fault number 4

problem: i start my car and the rpm is 1.2k or above.. the idle always seems very slightly higher than normal....

Solution:
The vacuum tube from the drivers side of the inlet manifold has snapped off, causing an airleak out of the tube...few bhp loss iirc.

Solution.
screw a screw in to the rigid plastic tubing. and superglue the end.

After reading that i'd say you have a vacumn leak somewhere, but then i never had a problem when my TB was loose as **** and when i left a vacumn hose off, but when the vacumn hose was off i noticed it cus i coudl hear a whistling noise in the engine bay when i had my ear by the engine

Thanks for helping mate, although i know its not a vacum pipe or hose. They are all fine. It would idle at 3,000rpm then come down to about 2,500rpm so I adjusted the throttle potentiometer now it idles at 3,200rpm ish i have set the TP at every setting since but it makes no difference. I will change the ECU for the 16v ecu tomorrow, aswell as changing the idle control valve and any of sensor there is which picks up air flow :(

What ECU have you got in there atm?

cliolord

Williams ECU although I dont know if it has been modified at all. I know the 16v ECU hasnt been modified

16v ecu IIRC wont' run a willy engine properly, i was asking cus if you had a 16v ecu in tehre is might explain your problem

sounds like u got an air leak pal,

spray brake cleaner around all of the vacuum hoses and inlet manifold, when you hear the revs rise inspect that area closer.

should solve your problem

should mention you should check all the vacuum hose and pipes not just the one mentioned in ^^^that solution

cliolord

well, i had a fiddle with all the pipes just then. Got idle down to about 2,200rpm. When it first started, it idled at 1500rpm and sounded like a mustang on drugs ;) awsome blub blub blub but when i hit the throttle it came back down to 2,200rpm

The car idles at 1,800rpm from start up. If you rev the car whilst driving it for about 3seconds (full throttle in gear pulling hard) and let it return to idle, it idles at 3,000rpm until you turn the ignition off and back on then it will idle at 1,800rpm until its driven hard again

either an air leak or fuelling problem.

What have you been working on since it was last ok?

sounds like the same prob i have, i had diagnostic done and it traced it back the the throttle body possitioner sensor, just waiting for a new one to arrive and hopefully that will sort it

it's been idling high since i got it started. I had the exact same problem on my last 16v clio and fixed it but I cant remember what it was now damnit lol

Hi mate had the exact same problem with my hybrid. Turned out to be a faulty ECU, I would definatly try a different one!
