As most of you know, i am putting the f7p in my 1.4 clio, wen i was told that it was reasonably simple to do and that it wudnt be expensive either, i thought i wud go ahead with it, but it seems that there are lots more problems with doing it than first expected, i was given a parts list to get for the engine and parts to run the engine, so i have spent a shed load on parts for it, and today, wen i got a call from my friend that is doing the conversion, to say that today he tried fitting the fuel pump and filter to the car, they wudnt fit, cos there is too many pipes coming from the fuel pump which should go to the fuel tank, but because its a 1.4 fuel tank, it doesnt have a reserve tank, ive been told, and there should be extra wires on the loom to go with a 1.8 16v fuel tank....

So i was just wundering, is there anyone else on this forum that has done wat im trting to do atm, and if so wat problems did u have and how did u get around them????

Wish i hadnt of bothered doing the conversion now, with teh money i have spent could have probs bought a mint williams and a mint valver.....

Any help wud be much appreciated

Cheers
Nick

try asking over on retro-renault as well. I've spoken to chris on there about this before and he can tell you exactly whats what with the fuel pump etc.

Yeah, well the person thats doing the conversion is hopefully in the next couple of days taking the fuel pump somewhere to see if they can play with it and try and adapt it to wat i have at the mo, otherwise, its a whole new 16v fuel tank, reserve tank and loom ive been told?

stan

no, you just need the 16v main tank.

why would you need a new loom??

Nick16v
16-12-2006, 13:11
i was told that cos i only have a 1.4 loom, my mate has got all the wiring diagrams for sorting the loom out, for the 16v tank, pump and that there are other wires to the loom or something, cant remember exactly wat was sed but a loom was put into the equation if i needed to buy a 16v fuel tank.....

Very strange,
Mine was running on a 1.4 fuel pump for about a week, then i changed it for the valver one, straight swap! Had issues what so ever. I was told the wiring was different but then when i came to change it it was he same, so just used the existing wiring.

And its still i 1.4 tank also. What phase is it?

Nick16v
16-12-2006, 13:14
My clio is the mark 1 phase 3 tho, dunno if thats any different tho, supposedly with the air boxes on the 1.4 energys, there were two types, the 2 bolt on the air box and the 3 bolt......mines the 3 bolt....

Amirclio

Unless the wiring set up was different on the phase 3?

Nick16v

who knows, my mate tried running the car on the fuel pump and everytime it just cut out over 3k revs....

Wish i could help mate. To be honest i had no issues with my conversion at all, sounds to me like its fuel starved. Its definately a 16v pump?

Nick16v
16-12-2006, 13:42
yeah the one i have is a 16v pump, but its not fitted yet cos for some reason it doesnt fit for some reason, more pipes or something on the 16v tank???? I was saying the 1.4 fuel pump didnt work, cos u sed urs worked but u changed it after a while...

It was a carbed 1.4??

There doesnt have to be any wiring loom addition!

uve already got the wires for the sender, and theres a live and earth there for the pump! Even if there wasnt, you just run 2 wires!

There are certain issues between multi-plug configuartions...but if its running, it sounds like they have been ok.

fit as 16v fuel pump...end of...no hassle etc..contact Matt Brown, he will have one im sure.

actually - think about it were there not more than one type of fuel pump on the 16v's? and iirc one has more connections that the other?

I might be wrong but I'm sure thats the case with the early ph1's being different?

So wat do u reckon i should do? When buying the fuel pump, they didnt say anything bout there being to different types of fuel pumps, they just asked me the year of the car the engine came out of and i gave them that...

In that case this might be your problem, as the wiring that goes to the pump is from a different year.
Get some pics taken.
