Right fitted a new balljoint to the passengers side today, however the bolt nut decided to cross thread before the required torque! So what i've done is put another nut on and tightened that one (then tightened them both together.

I know this isn't right but is it ok? The steering is great now btw.

no not really, you need a new ball joint (again) for it to be safe

just get a new wish bone an save all the fcukin about. they come with them in.

ahh balls!! It was all going swimmingly well until that as well.

If I get a new wishbone though Will I need to take all the hub, brakes and shocks off to fit the damn thing? Because that would be a pain in the arse!

sorry can't answer your question but are these the same bolts i had problems with?

yeah, they seem to be made of cheese!

this the bolt that connects the hub to the balljoint or the balljoint to wishbone bolts?

I hade the exact same problem with my balljoint to hub bolt, had to refit a high tensile one, quite dangerous actually

it's the 2 bolts that connect the bottom balljoint to the wishbone, utter crap, i'll be changing em soon, the fixings I bodged are still solid though.

Just replace em with high tensile ones done it on every car i've had an they've never failed.

where do you get the hight tensile bolts from that are the same as oem ones?

cheers

if it's just the nut that holds the hub to the joint thats cross threaded and not the bolt it should be fine to put another nut on. all this is is a pinch bolt, the hub itself hold the ball joint in place. just think u have the whole weight of the car acting on the joint as well as all the suspension bushes and strut. it's unlikely to come out even if the nut and bolt wasn't there

it's the 2 bolts that hold the joint to the wishbone, one of them is cross threaded.

it will come out. has happend to me. i stripped the thread hammering the original bolt back in so put in a spare bolt i had, but was too narrow. the hub came off the balljoint while cornering (at low speed thankfully) tearing the cv joint out of the drive shaft at gear box end on drivers side. the bolt has to be there on the hub.

anyway he's on about the bolts that hold the balljoint to the wishbone not the hub

sounds nasty mate, the reason it stripped is because the balljoint wasn't in at the right height in the hub.. I know beacuse i've stripped a bolt by trying to hammer it in :P

Soooo where do you get the high tensile bolts from?

thanks.

hmm not sure mate, what size is it do you know? I remember when I went looking for some caliper bolts in there and they were useless!

I got mine from b&d bolts in batlet. If you look up fastner suppliers in the yellow pages there should be plenty.
