View Full Version : My car has slowed down..

When I first bought my williams it was rapid but now its lost power and im not quite sure why. It started ever since it was over fueling because of a blow in the exhaust. It gradually slowed down then i put a pipercross IK on it and that killed it. I ve done a compression test and all 4 cylinders are running 11.5 bar.

Anyone had this happen to thiers or has any idea what is causing it??

Cheers
Dan

this my sound silly to suggest but you sure youve not just got used to it

cars are always faster wehn you first get them then you adapt to them

it like when you drive a car steady for a while it then boot it seems so much quicker then when you constantly floor it everywhere

unless its a really big differance in performance then yeah you most likely have a mechanical problem

but i aint got a clue what that could be :(

Has it been chipped ???? if it has take the battery off over night !

Oh and if the ik is killing it - fit the airbox back on.

Im pretty sure im not just used to it as it used to eat my mates 1.6 rover coupe for breakfast..now it only just pulls ahead :(

I dont think its been chipped as the rest of it is completely standard. Its number 0088 I bought from mat brown a few months back. im sure he would have known if it was chipped...

What does it rev too?

Give it a good service?

Cheers mate i will try that. Also going to try changing the air flow meter and a decat as well as the cat might be blocked.

Glad to know compression is ok as i wasnt sure what they should be running.

It revs to 6400rpm I will give it a good service at work tomorow, changed the plugs the other day, made it a bit smoother but no faster.

Take it on a run? Stick some good fuel in it.

And disconnect the battery :D

Could be lots of reasons, off the top of my head:

Clogged fuel filter, loose aux belting, weak HT leads, bad earthings, bad connector contacts (esp, the fuel pump connector). I would also replace the IK with the regular airbox.

get it on rolling road and see what power its pushing out

dyno reading is only bout £30

could even be seizing brakes? so its like your driving with handbrake slightly on :O happened in my old swift gti

compression is ok

are you sure that compression is ok stan ??
11.5 bars sounds a bit low compared to
my f7p with 16 bars all around .
that was with a buggered gasket as well btw !!!

Yes, im sure that compression is ok, thanks for asking :D

Your cylinders were probably full of water

There is no right compression as it depends on wear ont he piston rings, valves/seats, cams, followers etc etc. also the spec of the camshafts and the timing settings.

its not s much the value itself, but the consistancy across all four cylinders.

you should expect to see 150-200psi from a healthy engine.

As Purple said it could be any number of things if it is actually slower, some things he missed off is the Cat could be collapsed causing a blockage if it's still fitted, spark plugs, dizzy/rotor.
First place to start would be a good service.

Cheers for all your help guys, the IK has been removed. Will give a full service at work tomorow and hopefully a decat when i get paid

:) get a turbo slapped on should speed it up :D

DanClio

LOL. Thats was the original plan but now im worried about the stresses the engine can take so i think im going to go NASP instead.

Got loads of turbo bits if anyone wants them....
