View Full Version : Pic Request....F7R Engine block!

Afternoon All!

I need a picture of the bottom end of an F7R block. I have been informed that for verification purposes the plate that is on the engine with F7....... can be swapped from one engine to the other. I heard of this in a few cases otherwise the data does'nt match on the paper work as to the naked eye the blocks looks the same.
The engine i bought had a williams gearbox fitted to it which would indicate it being a 2ltr.

All information would be greatly appreciated, would it help if i posted a picture of my engine, if so shout up!

Kind Regards

Amir

Could my Bottom end be a re-bore? Need to get to the bottom of this. The engine came with a williams box, why have a willy box on a valver? They all seemed adement it was a 2ltr, can i crack this bitch open and see?

Look for the Engine number plate on the front
F7R 700 or 710

jay s

The Meganes have F7R cast into them.

This is a good pic, as you can see the thick veins at the bottom.
Thats what your looking for.
Yours looks to be missing these so i would say its a 1.8!
Also Amir, In your pic i see there is a starter motor on the floor, if its a big one then it's defo an F7P as this doesn't fit on the F7R.

stan

yup, as matt says, the meg f7rs have F7R cast on the side.

the F7P's also have F7P cast on the side

stan
13-11-2006, 22:34
and it needs more than a rebore to make them 2.0...it needs a 2.0 crank fitting.

this veins thing is confusing me, do both the f7p and r have them but on the f7r they are just thicker? in amirs pick the angle of the pic makes it difficult to see but i'd still say there are veins there? :?

best way mate is crack it open, pistons look different! :P

just the f7r's have veins, amirs block is smooth meaning its an f7p. also if u look closely u can tell the the starter motor mounting points are slighty different. the vein stick out quite abit on the f7r.

are they not just ribs but extra clearance for the longer stroke of the two litre as the two litre crank will not turn in the 1.8 block with the rods attached.

14-11-2006, 01:52
Bummer! Well it appears i have been well and truly shafted due to my naevity! But, you live and learn, i may just dismantle his engine as a learning exercise! Thanks for all your help everyone! It really is appreciated!

for reference:

the williams F7R 700 is the only one with the vertical ribs for the extra crank throw, as circled in red above.

the megan F7R 710&714 dont have these....neither does the F7P.
the 714 doesnt have the cylinder behind the aux oil drive shaft (as can be seen on the pic of the engine on the crane above)

however:

the F7P has "F7P" embossed on the top left of the exhaust side of the block, the 714 has F7R in the top left (as can be seen on engine on crane), and the 710 has "F7R" embossed on the top right of the exhaust side of the block.

i might take pics of each, so we can sticky this?

get it done mate, the plates arent reliable to identify the engines atall imo and a sticky thread wud be spot on craig mate. admin?

one way to tell is measure the piston bore diameter

carnt remember the two sizes but a 1.8 is smaller than an a 2.0

stew
15-11-2006, 09:36
yeah but you need the head off for that, and most engines are complete units when you go to look at them.

even if u measure the bore size you wont know its an f7r unless u know the bore diameter its ment to be!

irrc is the f7r bore not 82.7mm??? (could be totally wrong)

stan
15-11-2006, 11:06
82mm bore on 1.8's

82.7mm bore on 2.0's.

I thought the the bores on the 2.0l were the same as the 1.8l because the F7R was just a stroked out 1.8?

16-11-2006, 00:21
Hey, could somebody post photos of the front of the block as well? F7P or F7R, doesn't matter.

Wheres the hole for the oil level sensor?

Amirclio
16-11-2006, 14:19
Just below the oil filter where the block meets the sump.

northy
16-11-2006, 15:21
where that black wire is hanging down to the right of the filter !

why has nobody noticed the 16v manifold, surely that would be the first sign of an F7P i knwo they can be changed but surely it would make alarm bells ring hen lookin at the engine

Not really as most people fit the 16v manifold onto the F7R for improved torque.
