right ive got a problem thats pissing me right off, it's been there for a few months now and i want to get it sorted. ive got a knocking sound coming from the engine bay when pulling off or slowing down., it sounds like the top of the front struts are hitting the turrets (sp). it also pulls slighty to the left when coming to a stop braking and then to the right when pulling off. i would put this down to old parts but 3 months ago had loads of new parts fitted, new top mount kits, new track rod arms and ends, new front bearings, new wishbones, new column, new arb bushes, steering rack bushes and new coilovers. parts i have'nt changed yet are driveshafts and steering rack, would these cause the above problems? anyone had a problem like this?

ps. ive taken the coilovers off and gave everything a good check as i thought the problem was with these but there were perfect as was the bush etc that sits on top.

I had a similar problem on mine after I had fitted a new gearbox which required dropping the sub frame on one side. Turned out to be the flexible sub frame mounting. It was causing a knock on pulling away and slowing down. A real pain to change though the bolt had seized in the metal sleeve of the rubber bush, had to resort to angle grinder to get it off but new mounting solved my problem.

No camera at the mo. but it's the rear, drivers side mounting for the front sub frame. The other three are all solid but this one is a sort of rubber bobbin that allows some flexibility at this point, don't really understand why.
Only about £10 for new mounting and bolt though, so worth a try, but like I said mine was a bitch to get off.

ok mate i know the one u mean, i did notice it when i was having a look underneath and wondered why only 1 was fitted on 1 side. i'll buy a new one and change it over hopefully old one will come out easy. thanks for that. let u know how it goes.

Get plenty of penetrating oil on it first, including the captive nut which you can get at through the inside of the chassis rail next to the engine. If the cage that holds the nut in place is f**ked, they usually are, you can still get an open ended spanner on it.....just about  Good luck.

i replaced the bolt on other side of my frame, old one was rusted solid so open ender on the top and breaker bar on the bottom. it did just that, ripped the bolt clean in half!

at ****ing last ive sorted it :D , my knocking was due to extreamly loose nuts and bolts connecting the wishbones to the hubs  they were hand tight  feels soooo much better/safer now, gonna change the nuts for nylock ones next week just to be on the safe side...

The 2 Balljiont nuts?

If it was the balljoint nuts, check that the bolts haven't elongated the holes in your wishbones like they did with mine when the nuts were loose!

don't think they were the ball joint nuts.... at the end of the wishbone there is a bracket that connects to the hub, there ar 2 nuts and bolts on each side and all 4 were loose.

U mean connecting the wishbone to the subframe?

jay s

nope, the wishbone to hub......

AmDaMan

i thought there the only thing connecting the wishbone to the hub was the bottom balljoint?

sorry my bad, the nuts that were loose are the ones that connect the balljoint to the wishbone, u can see the top of the bolt it that pic, the other is just to the left of that out the pic. sorry for the confusion.
