Just changed the front discs/pads/calipers/hoses and flushed all the fluid and put new in.

When I brake I hear a really loud grinding/humming/jet engine noise coming from the drivers wheel?? But its on and off doesnt always happen, when I checked the disc its perfect, no scratches and the pads look fine also... whats making the noise??

if its more of a screaching then a scratching then it could be the pads moving, but doesnt sound like a rumbling

More of a whining with a bit of scratching thrown in now and then... gonna go check the bolts one might be loose can't think of anything else :S

Everything is fine, all the bolts are tight!! Pads look a bit fried though and the paint round the edges as bubbled and burnt a bit but Im guessing thats normal :S

did you bed the pads in properly?

hmm did know you had to bed pads in... they had bedding stuff on the surface and i didnt break hard for 50 odd miles...

Its really weird sometimes its really really loud like a wheel bearing but only when braking and it doesnt always do it... took the caliper etc apart last night but couldn't see anything, pads looks fine discs are fine, no grooves and couldn't spot anything, only thing i can think of is if there is something wrong with the caliper?

thats not normal your brakes are overheating sounds like the calipers sticking, did you copper grease the sliders? have you checked the caliper operation, wheel off with an assistant pessing the brake pedal?

hmm but they aren't wearing unevenly? Should I pull the slider out and copper grease em?

*bump* should i be copper greasing the guide pins (assuming that is what you mean by sliders?) as I've read that you shouldn't put copper grease on em?

not sure where u read that but in the dealership i worked at it's was standard practice on every car we did to copper gease, the sliders (guides pins), rear of the pads, tops and borrom of pads (where they make contact with the caliper carrier) and the wheel bolts. then check the brakes operated freely before sending the car.

i cant see why it would be any different on a clio..

i've done this process on mine for the last 3yrs and had no problems

So actually take out the guide pins and grease them with copper grease then put them back again?

Justin..

shouldnt put copper grease on the pins. its NOT a lubricant, its merely an anti-seize compound. use normal grease

BristolSam16v

Any particular kind of grease I should use?

Justin..

dont use copper slip on the guide pins, use something like pink grease,

you can use the copper slip on the pads/carriers were the pads sit!

I thought your meant to use Red Grease, anything else eats away at the rubber protectors over time.
