View Full Version : High Tickover

I'm sure I've asked this before but here goes again

When I start the car from cold it ticks over at about 1500 rpm and then as it warms up it drops to around 800 rpm, this seem normal.

After driving hard the tick over sits at 1500 rpm again and it doesn't drop until I switch the engine off but as soon as I restart it sits at 800 again.

Help Please

I had a look at the link and I think it's this one................

Idle problem 2

Idle is fine.. i go off and thrash my car,.. the engine is reving at 1.5k plus on idle
solution:
the speed sensor on your speedo cable requires a better earth. splice in to the black wire and find a suitable earth point behind the dash.
if this does not rectify the problem try cleaning the iscv using method 1^ then replace. still no joy, replace speedo cable.

It started after I had the dash and all the gauges out to remove a lot of dodgy wiring so this seems like it may be the cure.

[splice in to the black wire] does this mean the sleeving on the actual speedo cable? and also what does "iscv" stand for?

Cheers

Forget the bit about what does "iscv" stand for, I've just seen it in problem 1

ISCV is Idle Speed Control valve.

Located near the Throttle Body on the Inlet Manifold.

Might need taking off and cleaning but if it happned after you messed around with the dash try the splice thing.

splice thing is:

remove clocks and unclip speedo cable from rear of speedo. at top of cable shud be little 3 pin multiplug attached. clip BLACK wire on the speedo cable side fo the plug and retap a new earth for it, i used self tapping screw into the metal of the bulkhead.put back together

DONE! 8)

Just spray carb cleaner in ISCV and blow through with a air line.

Or just spray with carb cleaner if you havn't got access to a air line.

remove the thing, take off the pipes (cut off old renault clips n use jibilee replacements) use copious amounts of carb cleaner through the thing and if u look in the tubes you'll see a little metal shutter, this is what sticks and just blowing carb cleaner can move the gunk so it gets stuck again. use a cotton bud to gently move it back and forth, keeping at it with carb cleaner untill it moves freely. little dab of wd40 to keep it lubed and roberts ur fathers! 8)
