Went to change my plugs today, took all four out and the threaded part of each was covered in oil, there was also a bit on the hex part of them.
The ends of the HT leads also had a bit of oil on them.

Any ideas whats wrong with my car, cos it's obviously not right. My guess is the rocker cover gasket?!

Thanks,
James

how do you get in there to bloody clean it actually? I had a new seal but I didn't quite get all the oil out of the top of the plugs - Don't think its ever made a difference it being there but tis annoying

I duno how you'd clean it, guess just get something long and thin with a sponge on the end to soak it up?!

So is the rocker gasket literally a case of taking the cover off, pulling up the old gasket, scraping the old rubbish off, then fitting a new gasket and bolting it back together with new rocker bolts? Or does it need to be skimmed?

How long do you think it'll take? 2 hours?

whent he rocker covers off you have a lot more access in to clean it up. I use blue tissue thingies that the mrs gets me in industrial amounts, hard to tear but soak up anything.

It'll take 2 hours if your blind, have 1 hand with 4 fingers missing.

15 mins incl cleaning.

What bolts do I need to get? Is it the cylinder head bolts?

no, you don't need to replace any bolts when doing the rocker gasket - just re-use the old ones.

no, gawd.

take off plug cover, remove ht leads, take oil cap off and the 310mm bolts that hold the ht guide thingy in pull it out, refit oil cap.

Undo 16 10mm bolts lift cam cover off.

before doing that, theres a good chance the bolts just need nipped up a bit to stop the leak.

so clean the spark plug bits to get rid of oil, tighten the bolts, keep an eye on it, then if it still leaks replace the gasket!

Sounds like a plan to me!

dont over tighten them tho, the cover is alloy and so's the head so if u keep on turning like i did it just keeps going and something gets fooked, in my case it was the rocker cover, got 16 lovely bolt head sized indents in the top of it now!

LOL.

Is a very simple job, took me a little longer though, My old gasket was baked onto the head, had to scrape it of with a stanley blade
