1st question.

when did it start using stupid amounts of fuel ?

it was never that good but i just thought it was because it was old and i thrash it, then in the last few weeks it has really started drinking it, even when i take it steady. I can hear a knocking sound when it is sat still too on idle.

what does it idle at?

Coolant temp senders probably original and needs changed anyway.

It controls the amount of fuel injected. When the fail they can fail so its as though the engine doesn't heat up, this means its on cold start enrichment all the time, the lambda is ignored as during this phase its running open loop. So the lambda will have no affect on the fueling.

It could be the lambda if the ct sis ok, blip the thrtottle and feel the charcoal canister solenoid it shoudl click, if not then the cts is a prime target.

You can recover the lambda with a blow torch in 50% of cases

My 1.4 had been giving me about 270 to a tank recently. In the summer though I was getting about 320 to a tank with the same sort of driving. It seems loads of people have problems with poor fuel consumption on these engines, and no one has come up with a proper answer as to what exactly causes it, though I know chances are it's different things in different cases.

It is no better and it is still down on power. I have tried everything this weekend. changed all plugs, filters, run nsome red x through for injectors. Changed the temp sendor. No difference apart from i got 180 to a full tank. Any more suggestions?
