entering immobiliser code

i have got my immobiliser code from renault but am un sure of the procedure to enter it. I have been told to insert the key in ignition and turn til the lights come on, from there hold the central locking button down and count the flashes of the immobiliser symbol on the instrument panel. the symbol moves to fast and i cant count quick enough is there something i am not doing correctly?

have a look in the manual for the car. IIRC you use the button on the end of one of the stalks around the steering wheel and the accelerator pedal to enter the code in some way - presuming you are talking about what I think you are.
