Well, currently sat at home and waiting for a call for someone to come pick my car up and take it to get my engine. I'm now switching (not through choice...lol) to Megane power and if my car can be picked up today or tomorrow it will be started then and ready before the weekend! AV IT!

J o n
04-05-2005, 08:40
well, collected the car last night... one concern, it's sounds like a racing gearbox has been installed, in that it whines the higher up the revs you go. Not taken it to 4k yet as Mehdi said the cambelt sounds as though it's on too tight... the guys told me to take it very easy for the first 100 or so miles... will it loosen off then? if this something I should be concerned about?

(either way, no idea on the performance side, as I aint put me foot down, just been driving a 3k tops)

VIPERONE
04-05-2005, 10:00
its really nothing to worry about...

just a tight cam belt... if you ever hear mine before the new engine goes in.. you'll notice mine whines like my gf... well not that bad, it just whines slightly

J o n
04-05-2005, 10:08
hmm, dunno, it's never made that noise before and this is now my 5th belt service and change... had one on 54k, no probs, sounded normal, then again at 70k, 72k and 75k... again, all sounded normal... this one makes a whining noise that scares the shit outta me tho, never had that before... will this stop after a bit, as I have done over 20 miles with it since getting it back.

VIPERONE
04-05-2005, 10:13
i wouldnt worry too much... just carry out a cam belt change in 10,000k if its still whining.. or...

get the cambelt loosened off.... slightly

does it whine in neutral when u rev?

FlamingMonkey
04-05-2005, 10:21
My belt whines ever so slightly, sounds like a supercharger hehe

J o n
04-05-2005, 10:41
it whines in neutral yeah, but it's quite loud when getting to about 3k or more. Dont dare take it much further as it is very loud considering I can hear it as well as the zorst... :?

clean16v
04-05-2005, 10:44
it aint that bad! Well you're going to get it timed up on Saturday so just take it easy until then, better safe tehn sorry, then all hell can break loose on the return leg of the journey

J o n
04-05-2005, 10:49
true, hope nothing happens before then tho... i'm just a little paranoid now... i dont trust the car after all the agro i've had.
will it be safe to drive to Ben, as that journey will be done at 3-4k rpm all the way there?

dannyt
04-05-2005, 11:07
glad to hear it jebus, apart from the whining, but just take it well eas for a couple of hundred miles mate, let everything settle in the being used again, how long has the engine been stood for?

J o n
04-05-2005, 11:16
yeah gonna take it well easy until Ben does his magic.

not sure how long it's been stood, prolly a bit to be fair.

dannyt

J o n
04-05-2005, 11:31
Mehdi, yeah we certainly do pal :D

Danny, to be honest m8 I'm sure they can get one or have one spare. They are also amazingly quick considering the fact the engine was coming out etc, well impressed. I'd do it if I were you...

Winston
04-05-2005, 13:28
It's back....Excellent man!!!

My cambelt used to whine, loosed the tensioner but was still a bit whiney....the whine went after a few 100 miles. Im sure ben will sort it if it theres something wrong.

J o n
04-05-2005, 13:57
yeah, sure it will be fine, apparently it's not uncommon... just is to me as i'd not had that noise before. i'll just take it very easy for the time being...

VIPERONE
04-05-2005, 13:59
im sure its fine.. i like the whining mine makes.
