First off, I would like anyone selling a near standard clio 16v engine/gearbox blown up or not to contact me if it's on the cheap and near bristol. I am also after the Camshaft locking tool for the engine to make sure the camshafts don't turn when timing the head back up to the block so if anyone has that please also contact me on 07813388914......

Managed to get hold of a standard F7R Williams engine (with everything loom etc etc) that had covered 39,120 Miles. I am increasing power output and at this moment in time it is at work (stripped it today). The cylinder head is off and waiting to be machined. 33mm Inlet valves, ported/gas flowed, skimmed and high lift cams will be part of the modifications which will probably be done by stan.

On stripping the engine, there was only 1 problem, the dip stick. Ideally the dip stick housing needs to be removed in order to remove the Inlet manifold from the cylinder head. The housing snapped off clean in the block after trying my best to get it out :roll: bit of a pain but I should be able to remove it and at worst I should be able to get to it from the sump.

I will post pictures up soon lads, looks like a seriously mint engine still having the standard clutch from factory and what looks to be original belts, water pump, head gasket etc etc....Even the haylow marks in the piston bore's from factory are clearly visible, almost like the engine isn't even run in yet! Even with these pistons having small skirts which have a tendency to give bottom end rattle when cold, I really dont think this 1 will rattle. Really Really Mint!

I still need to decide what management I will be running along with the gearbox and clutch....Should I run a a new management (Omex/Smt6 etc)or should I run a remap on the OE management (chip wizards/superchip/bbtuning RR). Alot of people have said use the R5 Turbo clutch and the JC5 gearbox. What sort of power will the JC3 handle with that nasty crown wheel circlip replaced for something more suited for the job. I will keep you guys posted about the progress.

Hi,

Are you keeping the standard inlet manifold...or throttle bodies??

If keeping the plenham, then get a remap of the OE ecu...if t.b's then look at a proper ecu.

Have i discussed work with you already?

Camshaft locking tool? You have to turn the cams to time them up. It isnt an F4R

Make sure you get larger seat inserts, the 33's dont like sitting on the stock inserts that much as its right on the edge and you'll drop flow because of it.

If you've stripped it then you can just punch it out from the bottom with the appropriate sized punch.

Never heard the 'rattle' i consider the skirt tangs long because of the low r/s ratio

There are plenty of better and easier to use ECU's out there rather than omex, and the smt6 is plain crap, but what you need depends on what you have to achieve. I have some plug and play ecu's comming out soon for the mk1 clios which makes life so much easier. The R5gtt clutch from GSF can take the power, but its snappy and harsh, i dont like it. The gearbox will take the NA power you throw at it so long as you dont do standing drag race style starts all the time. I've not seen anybody replace the circlip with anything else before, so good luck, i'm sure people will be interested in your solution as the circlip is plain crap.

For the record, i ALWAYS have larger seat inserts fitted for 33mm valves...i tried having the stock ones cut, and yes, it was crap...so crap by eye, that i binned the head!

binned it! nutter.

Why did you just put larger seats in?

Larger seats cost money.....its a pain lol.

I will be running the standard inlet although if these can be machined aswell, I may be interested ;) I dont want the noise that comes with throttle bodies...I want to be seen not heard :lol:

I know the timing marks are on the cover at 12 o'clock guys by I want to be sure that the cams don't move...Misstakes can be made! Obviously I will turn the crank over a few times and check the timing before the covers go back on but it's reassurance. I don't think anyone can truly understand just how immaculate this engine is though, honestly. I have lent my digi cam out but have taken some pictures of my phone which I will try and uplaod soon....

Tapped the dipstick housing out today by removing the sump (as someone has also suggested). Oil pickup was nice and clean besides a few bits of gasket sealer from the factory (white compound around the sump). I did have a problem with the sump bung which someone had obviously tightened way too much in the past. Thought I was going to have to insert another helly coil which would have been a nightmare but luckily it was just the thread on the bung and I had a spare on my old 16v engine in the garage.

Yes Stan, I spoke to you on RSC about a week back. Can't wait to get the head machined ;) will contact you very soon (i'm guessing your not open sat/sun :roll: ).

As to the circlip, I use to work at Bristol Tranmissions and have a mate who is totally S31T HOT at it. I will see what he can do to the JC3 box to sort the stupid circlip out. Is that the only difference between the 2 gearbox's or are there different bearings aswell?

Is there any other alternative to the R5 GTT clutch? I heard of a Black Diamond stage1 clutch but I can't remember exactly where it was and don't know how good they are.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys 8)

Cams will be fine...no need to lock them, plus theres no real locking point. u could maybe put an allen key in-between them...but no need.

I remember speaking now!

ring me on 07858884261 if u wanna discuss anything related to your project.

If I was to buy a williams mate, it would have to be standard and I wouldn't take it on the track as the williams is the daddy and I would definitly cry if I hit it. I have 2 other mates who I will be on the track;
-Escort RST at 200bhp of useful power :wink:
-Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 although he is in the thinking process of the Mi16 :twisted:

Obviously the engine is just a small part of making a brutal track car and it's near impossible to make a track car a comfortable road car. It will be slightly lowered on some decent front shocks and springs (not sure if I will be going for coil overs yet). I am also looking for bigger brakes and i'm trying to find another renault with bigger breaks to fit to the clio....Anyone used the V6 Laguna brakes on a clio or anything like that? The servo's are pretty good from my experience on these valvers so I don't think a new servo and master cylinder will be in order

As regards brakes, the stock set-up with Brembo Max discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads gets my vote...i would suggest you try that before you try to change calipers etc.

Im currently building an Mi16 lump for a 205...using R1 carbs :D

my mate has just put GTi-6 front brakes on his 205 (callipers, discs, pads etc). Picture;

lol mental. I have heard people using the R1 carbs on the redtop vauxhall engines. Just got a problem with getting the head and the money to you stan but will try to call you tomorrow from work
