Hi, since buying my valver ive changed the oil for 5/40w pro s, changed the oil and air filter. Changed fuel filter and put some decent plugs in. The car is a 1991 so is fairly old!! its only done 29k miles so the HT leads, dizzy and roter arm are all from new, like the 4 tyres!! lol.

I didnt gap the plugs when fitting but was told they are already gapped to fit.

Would it be worth changing the dizzy, roter arm and HT leads even tho there isnt any obvious problems with the current setup? Im not sure what else to check/change to improve performance.

as far as i could tell the fuel filter that was on the car when i got it was from new. The tyres do need changing as they are starting to crack in places.

yeah as above I'd get them changed ASAP. Then give it good pasting to clear its lungs. Prob carbed up to death.

it was driven by an old lady for 14 years a few days a week, hence it only covering 29000k to this day.

I did notice it picked up alittle better with a new fuel filter. But then got abit worse with new plugs!! i think i need to gap them but they are meant to be "pre gapped"

Are there any cleaners i could run through it to "de carb" it as such. I did use a 99p redex when i first bought it :P

plug gap should be 0.8, which plugs did you get? would'nt use any cleaners just change them last few bits and take it on a good 30 odd mile drive to clean the cobwebs, poor things probley never seen past 50mph

Pro boost foam in the inlet manifold will de carb a treat.

Plugs should be fine, did you get half decent ones like NGK??

no got this off auto trader a couple of months ago. There was a post on here about it tho. It hasnt got stamped FSH but it has some. The original old lady owner i spoke to after buying the car told me all about it, but they lobbed out their bills for the car :( I did phone the dealer they bought it from and got some info off their system about the car and the mileage adds up :) You can tell by the general condition of the car that the miles are genuine tho.

yeah you can def tell by the condition of a car. You shold be able to tell from the previous MOT's as well.

I wouldnt bother changing the leads, just change the dizzy cap and rotor arm as they can become pitted. Leads can run on a car all its life no problems.

Are they single or multi electrode?

you didnt spare no expense there then? I thought these plugs were like really harsh for high power 500bhp cars. But hey, what do I know. Try the above and see if it sorts the problems.

LOL

my mates car went slower with those denso's! i just stick to normal NGK jobbies, cheap and cheerful as recommended by BenR

well looks like i might some get NGK's again. Damn expensive those Densos where :(

EDIT: i belive i took out NGK BKR6EK's. GSF say the BPR6ES's which are half the price with only one electrode.

The plugs you've bought are too harsh/powerful for a standard car.

£2.60 a plug I paid for NGK's.

Denso's are for highly modified cars and cars runnning big power not standard clios.

I've known of at least 3 people that have had a similar problem to this using Denso's. They are a high performance plug on a standard engine. Thats why they dont go.

Chris H is a guru, i wouldnt argue

besides problems will only arise if the gap is incorrect on the plugs, water has ingressed - the amount of power is determined through your ignition block, how its sparked, is down to the conductivity of the plug.

Plugs are plugs imo. Just get some ngk ones in there and it will be fine. I seriosly doubt the the plugs, howerver good they are make a noticable difference.

I mean, what are we talkin, 50bhp

I'm not saying anyone was wrong, but it was your mate Gunner, Wayne the Brain (chipwizards) that said these plugs were too harsh for my friends valver.

Like I said, what do I know?????
