View Full Version : F7R Engine build
hey peeps as some of you already know i have aquired a megane bottom end, im just wondering on what cams to use and whats the best power increasing mods to do, I want to aim it for maximum torque
I'll be using a ported valver head with standard valve's, thinking of increasing the compression a tad but not sure how much to take off,
who's doing good cams these days? i hear good things about benr's cams,
I'm going to put a new set of rings in the block and probably leave it at that apart from arp rod bolts, but do they do anything??
as for an ecu i'm not sure where to get a decent chip, remap, maybe a aftermarket ecu and bike tb's, not sure yet..
What opinions do you all have??
Dave
You want to repace the shells aswell while its apart, and measure up oil pump/bores/crank.
Catcams are the best to go for IMO...PM me for a decent price.
I also do cyliner head mods if your intrested.
As always mate, it comes down to your budget...even on DIY.
i was considering doing the shells but surely if i left them alone as they all seem ok (im yet to measure them though) the bottom end would be looser?? the bottom end has only done 50k as the cambelt went and a complete engine was sourced
Stan i might pm you at some point about having headwork done and possibly catcams but im yet to set a budget yet..
Dave
I dont know what you mean by looser, but for the sake of an extra £50 or whatever, i would 100% replace them. esp considering you are changing the rings aswel...false economy to NOT look at the rest of the engine.
just thought maybe it wouldnt be as tight but yeh might as well bung in a new set of bearing shells can get em cheap from work will have a look tommorow,
if your changing the rings you have to rehone it or you'll be down on stock power. Agree with bearings, essential and easy.
And again, as stan does, we do cylinder heads. Having just spent £70,000 on the industries most advanced cylinder head cnc machining equipment we can do some great budget work that outflows just about anybody with 25 mins work.......precision to 3 microns.....lovely.

Thats mad! The college work i have to do on lathes has to be accurate to 250 microns lol (0.25mm)
you'll be very very lucky if other people can get a valve seat concentric to 1 thou....very lucky! Hence all the lapping people do.
Besides, you wouldnt want anybody working on your engine to even remotely loose tolerances such as a thou (25.4 microns)

so 25 mins is half an hours labour time ?
i'll send you my head..lol
yea, but labour rates on the cnc machine are slightly higher than when i'm changing the oil ;)
You can get it dirt cheap if you just send me your valves and a bare head then assemble it yourself
also posted this in the wrong topic last night lol.
oh also forgot, dont bother with ARP bolts on a stock type engine unless you really need it, which you wont. And to use them you'll have to resize the rods with them installed or it wont be round.
70k....cheapy machine there then eh ;)
ul have to send us some of the profiles for the headwork mate...see if me mate can do owt with em. hes a genius on cnc's lol. bit of a slow worker tho..im still waitin for me plastic inlet mani for the bodies.....would be a nice cheap option compared to the shitty chadil ones.
yea, i had to sell my body..........then sell the remains.........and the waste fluids.
And yea...i'll send you my port profiles! lol....not!
and yes, the chadil ones are expensive and poop....and cast so nicely.....lol
lol while your at it, can u send me a fully race prepped engine for my williams? of course its free as a goodwill gesture!
yea sure............i think my girlfriend isnt busy tonight either.
why not lol... my address is 1.....
nah lol not me whos fecked this country up!!!
sorry for the thread hijack! :bicycle:
