a willy is only about 14 bhp more than a valver and iv had a valver and a vts, and when i had the valver it used to get nailed by my mates vts, thats why i sold it and brought a vts. Plus my 182 aint much faster than a vts if at all

Adams_16v:
its not just the 14bhp, its the torque from the 2litre. a williams is a good second + quicker up the strip which is a lot.

iv owned a valver and 2 hybrids, and the 2litre is a different animal completely!

azzer2000:
torque only makes a differance out of corners and up hill
but iv never drove a williams so....., all i know is, the VTS is quicker

torque is torque! it pulls a lot harder! both in standard trim a VTS isnt quicker than a Williams at all. iv owned a 106gti, and 2 F7R williams and the Williams are quicker end of.

holds the power band over a greater rpm so its pulling 200bhp for longer than a 182, hence vtec. Additionally i dont think there is much weight diff between a 182 and a CTR and tbh 20bhp is a fair difference, ever seen a 200 bhp 172/182 .... much quicker. Also, no offence but a 182 may claim 182bhp but its more like 170's.

VTS's are quick cars for what they are, but you are all forgetting... it depends how well you drive

a 182 isn't much quicker than a VTS my ars i gladly say my 182 would kick an vts' ars, probably not much else but i'd wouldn't dare say it's only just quicker

 A williams is defo a little faster than a vts. In the real world and imo a 182 aint loads faster than a vts or valver, yes they are faster but not as much as 182 owners would like to hope.

i read somewhere on cliosport that a 172 owner expected his 172 to keep up with escort cosworths... aparently a few members have said 172s will keep/beat escort cosworths...
Cliosport talk shite!

the Escort RS Cosworth isn't much better through the gears, round the twisties, straight line etc etc than a 172

This person actually tried against the cosworth for about 25minutes.... why?

to be fair a standard Cossie's not that fast at all, it has almost identical power to weight as nearly all the RS Clio's.

True. The Saph's are shit. Even upto about 300bhp.

That reminds me....

even the Escort is pretty pants now, things like a VXR would pan it. Back in the day they were pretty untouchable, but now most modern hatches will be right with it.

i remember once 2 hybrids (one being me in the nana) having a good blast with 2 saph cossies on teh way back from pod. nothing in it till about 130 then one of them slightly started to creap ahead.

was loads fo fun! :D

yeah but escort cossies are quicker than the saphs.. and there 4wd so ive no idea why a 172 owner thinks he would have a escort cossie on the twistys or straight line...
Even standard the cossie would leave the 172... not that your going to find a standard cossie nowadays

J o n
17-10-2006, 11:41
imo a good RWD Sierra Cossie (whatever model its called) is the quickest, the Escorts aint all that... 176bhp/ton is average hot hatch pace. No doubts as the speeds rise it will be quicker than a 182/Willy, but for the price of them it's nothing special at all, a boggo impreza classic is quicker.

nyk
17-10-2006, 21:18
Jesus, I think the RWD sierra cossie was only 204bhp, it was the 4x4 sierra cossie that was 224 @ 175/per ton.

Think the escort is 220 somthin.

Quick 0 - 60's somwehere is the 6's for all of em i think. Standard anyho's.

Love cossies.

All of em would leave a 172 on a straight or twistys, but as always it all depends who's behind the wheel.

Ive never had a problem dispatching vts's in my valver are they supposed to be quick? lol in my old valver i did get whupped good and proper by a supercharged saxo in plymouth once, yes it was supercharged i had seen the engine about 2 hours before and it went well!!

no idea what it runs, all I have to go on is Adi's standard one that was making around 250bhp, it was in absolutely mint (and I do mean MINT) condition, never seen one so perfect... but that thing was quick, 2 live at full spec couldn't keep up on the straights, thats a 14.0 second car too, so not what I'd call slow... okay, handling they suck at, but what a car when going in straight lines!

Oh, drifting is fun in them too

lol, i remember coming back from york dragway in the williams, there was me, steves FRS and 3 saph cossies, most of them ****ed off but me and a saph got stuck with traffic, but once cleared that i was pulling away on the corners as u could see he was all over the place untill we got onto a big straight, i was doing triple figures and he made mine look like it was stood still! couldnt beleive how quick it caught me and had gone, no idea if it was std, my williams was at the time, total boggo!

J o n
18-10-2006, 11:04
was probably running well over standard power I'd reckon, if it's 204bhp as standard it shouldn't be that much quicker I'd have thought... but then again who knows, Cossies are mental cars.

Craig
18-10-2006, 11:07
very rare they are standard.

my cousin has one that is 360bhp RWD.

and SHE drives it sideways everywhere! lol

tbh i thought it was fettled to say the least but it looked std! just left me for dead once we hit the straight!

LOL

Its all down to the driver as always.

I think the fast acceleration when they come on boost makes any turbo'd car seem quicker than a NA.

My other half had one, my friend has a saff too, she is also a girl and took hers round the nurburg ring not so long ago. Her boyfriend also has a saf, plus an escort cossie. They are both big RS owners clu/Passion Ford veterans.

Even standard tho, no williams is getting anywhere near a 6.6 sec 0-60 that a cossie does, with on parr drivers of course. I think its 6.6 anyway. If not I'm close.

SQUEAKY CLEAN
18-10-2006, 15:54
Yeah,as with most cars it depends on how well it's kept too,as some people dont bother too much with serviceing etc and in my experience it shows in the way it drives/performs.I've driven a few cossies and a really well looked after standard car has felt quicker imo than some apparently badly looked after modded ones! I had a clio williams and compared to most fast hatchs,it was VERY quick, but i also had an RS500 and getting out of the williams and into the cosworth was like getting out of a fast plane into a jet fighter  down the twistys thou the willy was king!
