my hybrid seems to be getting very hot the water temp went 3/4 of the way up when i was sitting in traffic today only ten minuites of traffic not too much so i put the hot air on and it cooled it abit then got passed the traffic went down to 1/4 - 2/4 then as soon as i hit more traffic streight up again

its only got water in it not coolent is that going to make that much difference ?

what could it be

any ideas ? :(

YES you need coolant, Check the fan is coming on, If its not , get a rad fan switch, if that doesnt fix it get a new fan motor.

If the fan is coming on, replace the thermostat.

However, if you are running the car without coolant, the water may have caused rust in the block/radiator..........give it a flush.

make sure you bleed it properly

sticking coolant in will not make it run cooler, coolants there as an anit corrosion and anti freeze concentrate.

Also there is no problem with the temp at which it reached assuming it never went higher than 3/4's and the fan kicked in.

From what you described its behaving as it should when you get moving again as well.
