Basically, my mate has a 1.4 maxim S and wants to put a valver lump in. Ive got the engine, just in need of a 16v gearbox.

Just wondering if you guys new anywhere cheap which would the lump in??

Cheers

tbh, it's not particularly a specialised job so there should be loads of place that will do it. And btw you can just use the 1.4 gearbox and driveshafts.

You can't use a RT box ....won't fit!!! .....doesn't bolt through the sump like a valver box does

you sure? I'm going by what I have been told by Chris H and a few others who have said they are interchangeable.

I thought all the renualt 5 speed boxes were interchangable...not sure where i heard it tho...

So you all reckon its not that hard of a job?? Ive got no idea how to do a clutch with might as well be changed if the gearbox is off.

the engines ie valver engines have an ali sump, and the box bolts to that, on teh engine with a steel sump (on the RSi anyways) you have a engine to gearbox tie bar wihtch replaces this, but someone else told me that teh rsi box wont' fit ont eh valver/williams engine

the 1.4 box is fine. yes the bellhousings are different. there will be a gap left at the bottom but this is noty an issue. I know of several runnign boxes with the gap and have done so for about 10 years and in some cases over 100k like that.
