is there much benefit to be had from having the standard ecu re-mapped with a few basic mods?

cliolord

if your doing this group mapping thing, wait a little bit and I will be having my willy lump mapped aswell! That is also going to be a big valved head!

Valver pete, yes there is. It's suppose to increase fuel economy on high octane fuel (which you have to run) and it's said that flat spots are ironed out. Not a great deal of power is gained but it's something I guess plus you don't have to worry about ripping the block appart or taking the engine out

My Megane BE with Big Valve 1.8 head produced 190bhp after Wayne had finished with it. May have loosened up a bit now and cams aren't properly timed for power either.

Be interested to see how you get on.

Definately worth going to Wayne. Can leave car and go into Manchester for the day too unless you want to watch (which I didn't)

Get cams set up properly on rolling road before the remap and then you should get better results than I did.

matty:

did craig build an engine for you recently??

Didnt you make just over 200bhp??

stan
07-11-2006, 18:45
yup i built his a few months ago...it made 190ish bhp. the cam timing was set quite conservatively.

right lads. I got the car now, the head is with Craig and I really want to get it mapped at chipwizards. If you can, any chance of waiting until i've wacked the engine together and dropped it into my valver? Group disconnect and all

mate, i would not nitrous it, seriously. Too much money to loose. NOS burns so hot in the bores it can even take the top off your pistons if your not careful but obviously it's up to you. You also have to think about the gearbox...That sudden surge of extra power could snap you input shaft etc. Would be really cool if you had no problems though I guess

hmmm yer im a bit 50/50 atm....

i think i'll see how scary my engine is when its in....

When is yours going to be done cliolord??

stan
07-11-2006, 19:30
I would use nitrous on it really.

The piston ring end gaps wont be set for it for one....and i wouldnt like to say "only 50bhp would be ok" then it fails.

stan
07-11-2006, 19:31
edit: WOULDNT use nitrous lol

it'll be fine unless you have a 55 gallon drum filled with NOS and you use it all at once!

You know it'll be fine Craigy mofo!

you wont be able to use much anyway since you cannot run a switchable map system for N20.

And i dont suppose anybody wants to run a permanently 'weak' road map just for the periods that they play with N20.

N20 on a road car is pointless IMO unless you plan to deal with its short commings.

50bhp ontop of a standard williams engine would be insane. 50bhp might not sound alot but in reality, it would be alot of juice. I would be thinking of a 25 shot if I was you  think about the input shaft/diff when you put an extra 50bhp though it ontop of the 170+ that your running out of the williams lump. I don't think it would last long...

Should be around xmas time...Jan latest. Once the head is back with me I will by the auxileries (turbo clutch/T-belt + Tenioner etc).

If you guys are in a real rush to get it chipped and all excited and stuff, I understand  I cant wait to get this F7R fired up!

I dont really rate the "breathing mods" much mate. Certainly not the "induction kit" and the open air filters. De-cat is all you really need. I am thinking of replacing my exhaust system with a standard 16v system as the knocking is doing my head in
