View Full Version : split in o/s/f suspension turret
i am looking at purchacing a williams, and on close inspection i noticed a split in the seam sealant between the o/s/f turret and the bulkhead, its only about 3mm wide and doesn't appear to be structural as the main chassis leg joins the bulkhead below and that appears fine. the car also pulls and brakes in a straigt line
is this a common problem? does anyone know of this happening before?
thanks nick.
what you need to remember is that the top of the shock goes in teh top of the turrent and this has massive forces through it during hard cornering, a slipt will affect handling, and may well get worse.
Never heard of it before
I'd leave it personally
it just appears to be the sealant that is split and only down the side of it not the join along the top, that appears to be fine. if i bought it, my intentions would be for a track day car, would a cage with triangulation to the front struts solve the potential problem?

I have seen it before on a 16v that had been repaired badly.
3mm is a hell of a lot!
Walk away.
Mat.
realy, that could be the case as it was in a front end accident at some point.
its going cheap tho. is there anything that can be done to fix it?
my old one split when i smashed the car into a lamppost, it was a writeoff. id walk away...

cheers for the advice mate. i think i'll leave this one then
I've got the exact same problem on my runabout clio (1.2). I've had it 6 months now and it hasnt got any worse, I've thought about welding it up but never got round to it.
Like the others say, I'd steer clear, only reason I've never sorted/got rid of mine was because it's only a 300 quid car.
Craig
what? walk away? fpmsl
the sealant splits with age mate, a bump makes it split a lot more and unless your blind it would be easy to see the bend.
chances are its just split with age.
