I've just got hold of a second-hand column for my Williams

How much should I be expecting to pay roughly for fitting? Not sure how much my garage charges per hour, so a time of job might be a more useful answer

Shouldn't take any longer than 2 hours.

For an experienced mechanic Id say they could do it in an hour, only took me hour n a half cause i put it back together but forgot to plug the speedo in! But any longer than 2 hours is taking the piss defo...

Have u checked the column you got hasn't got any play in it?

I just had this done on mine, I paid a renault mechanic to do it on his evening as I am lazy. It took him 2 hours, but it was dark and he was doing with the light off his mobile phone!! LOL

Things to note.

The bottom of the column will only connect to the rack in one position, if you can't get the pinch bolt back through either turn the UJ 180' or the stubby bit on the rack.
There is a hook on the column which can get caught on the air vent foam on the way out and in.

thanks mat.

Got the column of richy and its a nice bit of kit. Glad i bought new now as i get fresh bearings to help tighten up the steering.

Hoping that the wires for the alarm dont run on both sides of this rack - or else im going to have to go disconneting

Well dropped it off at the garage this morning, awaiting a call soon to tell me its done. I did tell them though not to rush, that i'd rather them take their time and be careful with everything and it to cost me a little bit more rather than getting it back with greasy carpets and stuff

50 quid for fitting sounds very fair!

I got quoted some rediculous amounts!
