Just recently I've noticed that my car is'nt quite feeling as quick as it should be and my worst fears were comfirmed when I took the car out to some roads where i have taken vids before.. :( 95mph where before it hit 105mph.. My first port of call were the plugs where a noticed a bit of oil residue...(very small amount...spilt when oil change was done prob) would this cause such a big difference..and what other bits should I be checking first??

Change the plugs first and then maybe leads, cap,arm etc if needs be. It may just be that the plug is past its best and not burning properly leaving a wet residue on the plug.

Cheers Mark....what plugs are you using?

I think I just use the Bosch Super4's. To be honest , its flipping ages since I changed them.

They do seem to last a very long time though. I tend to use the Super 4's over NGK R's nowadays wherever possible simply because they last so much better.

If the engine ever gets modified I may go to a higher temp plug though.

That could be a possiblity.

Martin
22-04-2005, 17:33
If a change of plugs and leads does'nt fix it then I'm gonna cry! lol

martin...

when i got the car i was under the impression it had had a full service at gdi, but the leads and dizzy were both fuked! come right crap came out when i unplugged the leads form the dizzy! anyways i claned them all up and replaced the leads, dizzy, arm, cts, timing sensor, map sensor all before you bought it mate! so i doubt its them! i do believe plugs were changed at gdi tho as they are on the receipt!

did u swap that fuel filter i gave ya mate??

Craig

Martin
22-04-2005, 18:45
The fuel filter was the wrong one fella so I'm gonna have to seek out the right one...anyway there is deffo some oily shit in with the plugs so I'm gonna get them cleaned up/changed.... It's well worrying though that it could be something difficult to pin down.. :(

Craig
22-04-2005, 18:49

Aye but 10mph over a 1/4 mile like distance is fecking LOADS! I'm gonna do a vid to compare I think...

Hot air saps these cars. The more tuned they are and the hotter they are running the more they are affected.

When you get the first cold spell you really feel the cars pick up more. Your just suffering the reverse of that now.

Martin, if your free over the weekend, bring it over to me, we can try my old plugs which are still in good condition, and if you want clean air filter, have a look round, give it a good clean (as that always helps) and then see what to do next!

If none of that works try the fuel filter next!

22-04-2005, 19:46
Craig, what car are you running to have to spend £60 on plugs???????

If by any chance its an Impreza we can do the proper NGK platinum tipped cheaper than that.

Martin
22-04-2005, 19:52

Martin

We can do those for £36 plus p+p, which isnt going to be much for a set of plugs.

Hmm, it's still not right now..had the caliper checked and it's fine now :? but the car is still slowwww. Think I'll go to york just to see how slow!

Rich
25-04-2005, 15:55
if it's an intermittant problem i would still replace it mate cos you don't want it to lock on and cause you an accident mate! as people have said too its still pretty warm so this may be affecting it a bit too
