strange ticking sound from the engine bay

iv attached a little movie file of my engine it seems to have an annoying tick tick tick tick tick sound coming from the engine bay seems to be there all the time even when warm worse when iv booted it you can just make out the ticking at the end of the video just wondering if any1 knows what it is :?

sounds like cam followers to me.

mine does the same ? i dont worry as its not loud

so i shouldnt open my wallet for anythign then it annoys me as i can kind of make it when im in the car with no music on and my windows up it gets faster as i get faster??

For about a minute when i start my car from cold it taps.

Strange thing is it never did it until i got it serviced. Used 10w 40 and the tapping started then and it was loud.

Now changed the oil again in favour of 5w 30. The tapping isnt as bad.... only a minute or so from cold as i said but i still dont understand why it only started when i changed the oil??

Renault's are ticky kinda engines anyway worry when it doesnt tick lol

the tapping is the cam followers, which are hydraulic, hence they can be noisy or quiet depending upon the oil u use, i use 5w 40 fully synth and it taps for half a min or so on cold start up and then is fine.

the noise on the vid mate is nothing to be concerned about atall, thats just an old engine making noises an old engine does, nothing more! 8)

Yeah infact id say its hard to find a valver out there that doesnt tap like that for a minute or so on cold startup, mine has a "tick" noise, ive been told thats the injectors though.

could try flushing and changing the oil

ai tis true, injectors make a ticking sound n all, slightly higher pitch tho and more ticky than tappy! :P

flushing the oil isnt always the best thing to do, but oil change might help unless its an injector...

flush can cause oil leeks so not always a good solution

Mine didn't tap until i changed the oil.... strange one

Neither of my F7* engines have done that....i've misplaced my injectors atm lol

Mine is on 106k and only taps if its been stood for a few days, plus it has no oil leaks :shock: must have had a rebuild at some point its too clean lol !

mine also started tapping badly after an oil changea while back!

that reminds me i really should give the oil a change today anyway!

im gonna slam some new OE followers in when i have the head rebuilt anyway!

just to add more insight to this, the problem isnt from cold its only when the engine gets warm that it starts to tick/tap do we still think its nothing to worry about?
