Anyone ever done it before?

Mines on its way out, so will need some syncro's replacing and im guessing other bits and bobs :?

Just wondering if this is something that can be done in the home garage, or are specialist tools/machining required?

is it literally a measure components, and replace those not in tolerance?

lol

What kind of cost we looking at, minus the parts that would need changing, and how much do the parts usually cost?

tbh mate i dont know....

i payed £100 for my willy box to be rebuilt, that inc whatever parts where used, but it was a back-hander.

the other boxes have been on race cars, where if there was a problem, we just send them away, pay the bill and get them back...

sorry for lack of help...

had mine rebuilt for 90 quid. plus parts. depends. look at lunners downloads. main gearbox shaft is one piece and has 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gears on it as well as reverse. any damage and it will need to be replaced. you really need the box stripped then decide ifs its worth doing. against a new box. try bernie at cps on 01582 840008

There's a guy on here (cliorod I think) knows a specialist in Preston who rebuilds all kinds of gearboxes for about £350 I think, I'm interesed in this as I may need mine doing next year, and he specialises in gripper and quaife diffs.

Hi Hooligan,
You could try K&N Transmissions of Preston ~~
out at Goosenargh actually, ask for Keith,he was talking around £130 for a strip and
rebuild.Any parts needed would be extra. He said he will strip the box,and then tell you what is needed .
Phone number is 01772860860.
Hope this helps.
Rod.

above info should help

Rod

Can they remove and refit the gearbox themselves or do you have to supply it yourself? Looks a very professional outfit just been looking at the website, good price and 12 Month/12,000 mile guarantee too!

Tommo,
I am sure about that :? .I took my mates as it was out ~~ he sent it by courier,I sent it back same way ~~~ his courier,~~ where abouts are you. :? :?
If in doubt give them a ring   .and see what they say,I am fairly sure they do not  ~~ but you never know.If you are near Birmingham,I could ask my mates,to get his courier to pick it up etc ~~ not sure how much it would be though.

Thanks Rod

Just enquiring at the mo as my box is ok for now mate, but now I know where to take it if it needs any work. I can always arrange a courier if they don't remove and replace the box themselves...

Cheers
Col

has anyone ever rebuilt a gearbox "at home"?

I've taken mine apart at home, just to have a 'look' !!

Then gave it to the guys, who know what they are doing. It looked pretty simple, its only a simple gearbox mechanism...nothing like the ones today with double clutches and shafts inside shafts!

As stated before though, a few tools are needed to put it back together that I didn't have at home.

I rebuilt a couple in the workshop where I used to work. You need a few specialised tools which are fairly expensive so I doubt you'd be able to sort it in the shed lol
