I'd get the cable checked again.

BTW "Graunching" is a recognised word.

Make sure you try selecting 1st Gear before Reverse it will stop the gaunching...lol

mate i just fitted a new clutch cable on saturday (4 days ago!) aswell! and reverse is indeed a BITCH...

I was also having probs with 1st and 2nd gear, but these seems to be "ok" now. sometimes 1st wont go in depending on the syncro, so dump clutch and try again and normally in fine.

like you say reverse is really bad. also i find that if i leave it in reverse, come to a stop, and put my foot fully on the clutch, the car will start to role back, so obv something not right!!!!!!

Stromba says it gets better as the cable loses its newness.

im sure they have changed the clutch cables few people have the same problem!

and it gets worse with heat so probably cable is crap quality now from renault or pedals need adjusting some how

Every Renault I have had has a notchy reverse gear. I thought everyone selected first before reverse.

mine was dodgy on the old clio but that was because the link rod was rubbing on the exhaust everytime it went into reverse and the rod eventually brike leaving me with a long limp hom in 3rd gear in a 1.2! might be worth checking mate :?

Every Renault I have had has a notchy reverse gear. I thought everyone selected first before reverse.

Why?

I reverse into my drive every day, out of 2nd, roll it to a stop and then into reverse and hey presto!

Mine is a bit notchy too but goes in fine without any difficulty....

I always engage 1st, then reverse, always have done, even in the diesel clio i had before. Force of habit now i guess.... 8)

Seems fine now, however the putting into first gear first seems odd, however I remember having to do this with Landrovers when I was in the Mob :!:

Ok ,dont know if they have all been notchy, but I seem to select first before reverse in every car I drive. Must be habit I suppose.

I de-clutch twice, sometimes, but that's a remnant of driving the AX which outright refused to go in reverse unless you did that.

Maybe you're all just too limp wristed to get it home! :P

I suppose being right-handed does not help!! lol :D

it crunches because the flywheel is still spinning... Selecting 1st gear beforehand will erradicate this problem... well may erradicate it...
