As you can see in this pic

http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/files/dscf1858_149.jpg

the drivers side sill on my car was fairly rusty. I noticed it ages ago and painted it with that hammerite straight to rust but it still came through. Anyway yesterday I got cracking with the restoration. No pics of this but anyway

1) Get heatgun out and start scraping all the anti chip stuff off, but heatgun blew up

2) Stick wire wheel on grinder and finish removing the underseal and all the surface rust. Peasantly suprised to find that there's only 2 tiny holes in the sill so it won't need to be replaced

3) Wait for shit english weather to stop pissin down then get welder out and plate the holes up.

4) Grind welds down, then sand the whole sill with 120 grit to give the paint something to bite to

5) Apply 5 coats of Hammerite rust stopper. Mmmm Brown

Moving onto today

6) Apply 5 coats of Zinc 182 (cool name eh) grey primer.

7) Wait to dry then apply filler to the small marks that appear

8) Sand filler, then sand all the paint down with 500 grit to get rid of the brush marks

9) Mask off and apply copious amounts of high build primer

10) 120 grit the whole inner wing, panel wipe in then get hammerite black rust beater out and paint the entire inner wing black.

Thats where i'm upto at the minute. Looks OK and should be good painted body colour and smooth.

I fancy having a go at the bottom of my door and the arches - just a temp measure till I can get it sorted - bit worried about the colour matching though!!

is it 1 of the 2 big metal things (1 on each side) that come down and round towards the back of the car?

Ye thats the subframe. Make sure you have a plank of wood between the jack and it to stop damage.

I was thinking more of painting the whole car in the brown lol. Would fit nicely with the 70s wheels.

Its not proper stone chip just paint that doesn't set solid. Didn't want wrinkly sills again they look shit.

agree with that but you will get a lot of stone chips on the front section of the sills.

Don't really care i'll go over them periodically to stop the rust. Its gonna be so low nobody will see them anyway.
