stiff gear change in the morning?

when i get in my car 1st thing in the morning the 1st couple of times i change gear it seems to be a bit stiffer and harder to get into gear ( mainly 1st and 2nd ), after driving say only 300 yards its back to usual, nice and easy with no stiffness,

any idea's? is this normal ?

just the cold and thick oil - when it warms up its fine.
