Guide anyone?! :wink:

am havin a crack at em over the w/end so what'll i need in terms of tools and what components other than the new bearing and dognut rubber i have for each side? :P

i need spring compressors just to do top mounts? :shock: wasnt plannin on dismantling the whole strut! :?

yer, u can just take off the top mount rubber bit. iirc it was a 12mm swan spanner and a 6mm alan key. shud come off real easy. once loosened just spin it off and put the new one on.

Unfortunately the spring, bearing and donut are all held in by the same thing.

ah bugger, gotta love renault! oh well looks like i'll be waiting till i can get hold of some compressors then, machine mart on lunch tomos!! :lol:

ye think its 21 or 20...def not 12 though....

u can change the donut ruber on top without the compressors coops, but if your changin the bearin youl need compressors 2 dismantle the strut etc

u can use a socket wrech without an allen key to undoo the strut top bolt as long as the cars on the ground and not jackd up....the weight on the struts usualy stops them from turning!

How can you change the rubber without spring compressors. My old unit was top hat>bearing>rubber>collar>retaining clip.

My new one was top hat>bearing>rubber>collar>retaining nut.

As soon as that clip or nut comes off it's all loose.

what rubber are we talkin about?....the ruuber that sits on top of the strut housin (under bonnet, donut shape) or the rubber that sits under the housing?

either way cuz am doin the bearing i gotta get some compressors! lookin forward to collecting tools i need neway

I was talking about the rubber bush that sits in the turret. That on the top is the top nut. Yes you can remove the top nut without compressors.

local motorfactors 2 me rents them out at £3 a day!
