After i missed half the session with williamsclio due to my front tire exploding on the circuit - they let me back out a hour later with the 106 boys.

With wet tyres on the rear and slicks on the front - it was definalty a intersting ride.

To date its only done 2330 miles!

The Clio cups feature a blueprinted 1.8ltr 16V engine, sealed ECU with a 8k limiter, Renaultsport ‘Williams’ body shell, Renault Sport manual steering, decarbon race suspension, Williams wide track, 4º adjustable race camber, Racing dog bone mounts, straight through Devil race exhaust, Devil roll cage, plumbed in life line fire extinguisher, magnesium speedline wheels, brake scoops, underbody sheilds, removal of reserve fuel tank and i believe choice of induction filter.

Im well chuffed with it as i'd never driven it before sunday !

30-05-2006, 16:08
How much it set you back?

Seems a quality spec list, id love a devil straight through exhaust. mmmmmmm

Sex :D

It would be eligible for a Classic Touring Car Championship too mate. I've seen the lap times and I reckon you'd be well competitive.

racing in a proper series would be awesome...does it cost a lot in entry fees/licences?

I can find out quite easily. Racing isn't cheap though.

Or we should persuade Scott to run his car in a Britcar round again. I'd pay good money for a drive

hehe I think most people would !

I think that car would be awesome on a nice smooth track..it was hopping round corners at fcs 8-[

Car looked great Northy.

Yeah I have researched into racing my clio cup, a good series to do is the Tin Tops. A new series created for the more 'relaxed' racer, three classes A B & C. 1.8 falls in group A.

Its about £200 per race and lasts 40mins with a driver change/pit stop so ideally you can share the cost.

Am considering it next season if i can get my cup up to scratch and have enough finances spare!

Found a good photo taken by someone at FCS:

Competetive Racing is never cheap. Me and my best mate looked into racing in the Metro Cup for this year and it still worked out at around £10k for a full years racing if every event was attended.

I reckon it would be about £4K max a year on a tight budget in the tin-tops race series, there are 9 races but if you want to be competitive then obviously you would have to attend every meet, but for a bit of fun you could do the ones which are do'able whichever they may be:

2006 TinTops General Regulations

1. This is an invitation Series open to 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated (except for turbo diesels) sports and saloon cars in production since the 1970’s to present day
2. Original silhouette to be retained. Original engine, gearbox and induction system type to be retained.
3. The cars must run on any tyre available from list 1A/1B of the latest edition of the MSA Year Book.
4. Races will be 40 minutes in length with at least 20 minutes practice.
5. Races will be for single or two drivers with compulsory pit stops. Single drivers will incur a time penalty, to be taken as a stop/go penalty within the pit area.
6. No refueling will be allowed
7. Where possible, TinTops competitors will be allocated shared pit garage space and scrutineering will take place within the garage.
8. Where possible entry fees will be kept to £245.
9. The class structure will be as follows: a) up to 1300cc
b) 1301-1600cc
c) 1601-2000cc
d) Mini Cooper up to 1300cc ( Mini Sport Challenge Cars)
NEW FOR 2006: Special invitation class for 1.8 ltr Metros

10. Classes will be identified by different coloured sun strips, the first of which will be supplied free of charge on registration by the organisers, any replacements will be charged for.

hmmm.....so this would be open to a specced up williams too then??? caged etc. doesnt ness. have to be an ex race car??

aaronc
31-05-2006, 22:11
2live - No it doesnt need to be an ex-race car, just needs to comply with the regulations which are that it needs to be an original shell with Original engine, gearbox and induction system type to be retained, i think open induction is ok. Engine obviously can be tuned for more power.

Obviously all stnadard seats need removed, needs a cage, fire extinguisher, exterior battery cut off and FIA approved bucket seat and must have no major accident damage visable.

Apologies for going off-topic here

Yeah, you could race your Williams there, as long as you've sorted the safety stuff. Thing is though, I'd be very surprised if you went away without any bodywork damage.... Rubbin's racin' Harry :P

Plus you need the standard airbox
