I got mine at 18...I didn't pay anywhere near that money- ahh the joys of being a girl!!!

I'd seriously consider waiting. I had a Nova GSi at 17 as a second car and paid about £1500 insurance. It was a fun car and don't regret buying it but £1500-1600 for the privalidge to drive it is a bit silly looking back.

Think of it as dead money. Speaking from personal experience i'd wait an extra year or so

Try and get a quote under your own name with elephant, putting in the details as though you have had you license a year. As soon as I had had my license a year (no NCD) my quotes were cut by about 60%. I am getting quotes of about £1000 tpft for a valver under my own name with no NCB and I am only 18 so it's not worth going under your parents name if you wait till you've had your license a year.

Oh Bless, remember when i had these problems, better to just bite the bullet and get your own policy, if it's an option that is!?

now i'm 26 with LOADS of NCB's anf i'm £350 fully comp, does eventually become worth it!!!

B'Jesus!! When I was 18, my R5 GTT was £800 on my mum's. GTT's are only slightly less to insure than 16V's Has your insurer got a name like "Screwyouinthebum.com" or "Norwich Union" by any chance?

Also make sure you add some older female drivers to your policy as that took my quote down by a few hundred punds. I would imagine at that price that you already have one but without fail you save some money with elephant by adding older female drivers.

mines £480 FC on an almost 220bhp clio 16v with all mods decalired ;)

joys of being 26! hehe

My advise would be to get something slower till you have a couple of years NCB.

i had normal cars (clio RT or similar) till i was 20 then got a valver when it was cheaper to run.

I had a 1.2 8v mark 1 as my frst car.... cheap as you like and enough power to a new driver.... had a 205gti, corsa gsi cavvy gsi since and none can compare to the clio's...... gave in and got my valver.... stay clio.... start with something like a 1.2 or 1.4 and work your way up....

done that route myself

first car was a 1.2 8v mk1 phase 3, then got a mk2 1.2 8v now stepping into my valver shoes, back to the old skool i say!!
