this is quite serious because if i dont get this sorted in the next few days im not going to be able to insure and MOT it and im not going to be able to go to FCS. :( so im open to any suggestions and help that may be offered.

basically as i posted in my other thread i've had someone who i trust a lot give the engine a very quick once over and he says the tappets are tappety and it may have a bit of piston slap.

can anyone explain what exactly that means, how much am i looking to get it fixed and could anyone off here do it for me?
they'd have to be at least in the NW if not local to blackpool & fylde/preston area because im in the middle of doing the rear brakes and cant drive it anywhere.

Just leave it it'll be fine for FCS.

To fix them both requires an engine rebuild.

is it going to be ok to drive though? luckly i have a works car, so the valver isnt going anywhere at the moment.

could i even get away with some track time in it the way it is? or would that push it too far?

most williams and valver engines are tappetty mate

yours will be as its not been run propally for a while.

do the breaks and get it to FCS then you will know what needs doing once youve given it a proper drive.

It won't blow up no it should be fine, even for track time. I'd leave it for the time being but buy a good spare engine when you can and replace it when you've got time.

nice one guys, u've put a few of my fears to rest.

i was really worried id be driving down the motorway or even pushing hard round the track and end up seeing my bottom end bouncing off the road and covering the poor sod behind :D

My mates 1.8 Escort had piston slap, he drove it like that for about 15k miles before bothering to change the engine, still nothing was actually wrong with the engine apart from that, still pulled perfectly well.

Id say you will be fine :D

You are worrying unnecessarily. Even brand new Renaults will do that without warning. :)
