I know it's been asked before but what can be the cause of this? It seems to be stuck open at about 1400 rpm when stopped. Going in for a service next week so would like to tell them what to check.

Cheers

If it's fine when started but sticks after a drive?
Speedo cable.

As Mat suggested.

Mine was fine on start up, but after seemingly going over a certain rpm or speed then it would idle at 1200-1400. I knew it was the speed sensor as the speedo wasn't working either, and it was the gearbox end, because getting a drill on the cable and the speedo worked fine.

Had a new one put in when gearbox got overhauled.

The orginal speedo cable has been removed as it has a digital speedo so don't think it will be this? It does it from start, it was always a bit high when the clutch was dipped when braking, but went back down to 900rpm as soon as the car came to a full stop. Now it's stuck on 1400 regardless if I'm stopped or not!

Adjust the idle screw on the throttle cable?

Idle should be around 850-900 rpm, when the car is warmed up.

that was from cold before, not sure about warmed up temps

I think it needs a rebuild

Well, then its fine, I have around 1200 rpm too, when the car is cold (Clio 1.4RT).

Idles should be about the same on all Clios. So, I still think, that everything is OK with yours.

i think you'll find your accelerator cable - where it cross's your airbox - the little clip on it may have spun over downwards and it will catch on the airbox not letting the throttle back in properly

Adjust the idle screw on the throttle cable?

the screw on the throttle housing should never be touched it will cock your idle right up trust me!

idle should only be moved by garage with proper equipment. or you can adjust it with the throttle potenmeter thing.Red thing on throttle housing adjust screws changes idle.

i think its your idle speed control valve getting stuck, they all do give it a clean out with carb cleaner.then a little wd-40 to stop it from sticking.

try my guide out... if its been ok in the past? ie whlst the electro speedo has been on then it will probably be the iscv... if it has idled highly since you rigged in the electrical speedo then its probably the fact that you have disconnected the speedo cable... its needs to be fixed in for the speed sensor

Cheers for the help guys, car has always had the digital speedo on since I bought it and the idle has always been ok, just recently started to play up. Strangely seems to be ok now, but think I'll try cleaning the ISCV anyway.
