I needed a new driveshaft for my Valver.
I got the correct part no. 77 01 351 696 and here is the strange thing – it’s only 28mm diameter where the old one is 35mm diameter.

You guys have a good explanation for that?

Better steel – less material?

I've noticed that the thick old one narrows in at both ends to approximately the same diameter (28mm) as the new one.
If it should break, did they plan for it to break in those spots?

recon shafts seem not to be as thick as the ones that came with the cars, but so far they do seem to be fine

Are recon'd shafts just as thin?

I think it looks very very thin........

well i supplied one through work to someone on here, think it was edde, and that was thinner than normal, but i spent quite a while on the phone making sure of the other dimensions and that it was listed for a williams and we werent being supplied a valver shaft instead

Hmmm.....

Maybe the thick one is hollow, and the thin one is solid - remaining strength?

It really bothers me - don't feel like snapping it fist time round a corner!
aarrgghh!

Time will tell................

Thanks for the answers
