Also, is it possible for me to do it myself (with a mate) while the engine is in the car? How long would it take?

Thanks for ur help!

GSF....R5 GTT uprated clutch, comes in at around £60+vat at club prices.

Depends how comfidant with mechanics you are, box has to come off, easier to drop one side of the subframe downa dn just drop it down, gives you room to line it up then.

When i did mine it was the first time i had done it and it took me 2 days....thats working about 8 hours a day. Recon i could just about do it in a day now, esp now its lighter at night

im pretty handy with mechanics as is my mate, so i reckon, from what you've said we could do it in a day or 2!

Would it need to be donem on axle stands or ramps?

Cheers for ur advice mate!

I did mine on my drive on axle stands, althoguh 2 jacks would have been helpful at a couple of points along the way

Are they a lot better than the standard renault clutch for the 16v? Just wondering as I was going to replace my clutch when doing the gearbox but was just planning on using a standard renault clutch.

ooh, thats fighting talk!!

think i might just stick to a standard renault/valeo clutch cos im really not running enough power to worry about an on/off clutch!

lunner, ive now emailed u at the right address and added u to msn! lol

I've just fitted (well ok the mechanics did...) one of those GSF suplied R5 GTT clutches to my 16v, cuz I split the last clutch......I think its a good choice to have, I dont find it any more difficult to handle than it was originally!

It cost me an absolute fortune.....I had cambelt and auxillary belts changed too all at the same time....I'm sure one of the boys of here would be able to sort you out fitting of it.... I had mine done at the garage only cuz id already towed the bloody car there.... I think your looking at around the £300-£500 figure if you go to a garage.

I'd ask £150 for a clutch change and thats ****ing cheap

£300-£500 sounds about right

Is the standard renault clutch just a valeo one? If so is there anywhere to get one cheaper than renault?

bastard!!! ;) If I had known before that they were the same as standard ones I would have been bidding on it.

Lunner - do you know the part number for it from gsf as I had a look on their website but couldn't see any listed for a clio 1.8 16v.

mmm, quite a few people suggesting that clutch. Who makes that clutch that GSF have?

The main thing is that I don't want to get a clutch which will need replaced after 5k miles as seems to have happened to a few with aftermarket clutches, though it sounds as though this 5GTT one seems ok. How harsh is it to use on an everyday car as I've heard a few say they aren't great if you are in traffic etc? are they just really heavy or whats the difference in terms of driveability?

managed to get my dialogies working and the exchange clutch from renault is about £65 +VAT. I'm guessing these are recon'd clutches - doesn anyone know if they are usually OK? I'm definately not paying £100+ for a new one from renault so this would probably be the best option.

Lunner

Don't go to renault, go to GSF, headbolts from renault are £90+vat according to GSF invoice, mine cost me £28+ vat.

If you want a std clutch get the std GSf one, if you want uprated get the R5 GTT uprated GSF one
